Anime is known for its brutality and savagery.
Some anime scenes, depending on the viewer, will think it went a bit too far to make its point.
This is why views differ.
With that said, let’s talk about the most brutal anime scenes worth highlighting.

1. Keiichi kills Satoko’s uncle (Higurashi)
The Higurashi fingernail scene is legendary. If you’ve ever looked for brutal anime scenes, this was likely part of what gets mentioned. But the baseball bat scene with Keiichi Maebara is even more savage.
This scene builds up and is a form of vengeance or misplaced “justice” but the action, given the situation, is understandable in too many ways.
For a horror series that takes joy in some of the most savage scenes known in anime history, this is hardly the only scene you can find in this kind of anime.
There’s a buffet of horrific scenes and brutality.
2. When Sukuna says “lift your head” in JJK S2
Jujutsu Kaisen’s first half was more tragic with the past events of Gojo and what we see in the flashbacks. But once Sukuna finally shows his face, things turn sour and the sheer brutality starts to show itself.

Everyone hates scenes where animals are being abused in some way, shape, or form. It’s just a natural instinct to take an issue with it—especially a PUPPY dog.
This is what happens in Elfen Lied, among other things.
The dog gets abused to death, and that leads to even more brutality, the justified kind.
4. Akane Tsunemori’s friend is in danger (Psycho Pass)
Akane Tsunemori being the beginner police officer she is just not used to certain things on the job. One of those things is dealing with a serial killer who doesn’t give any fucks in the slightest.
He holds Akane’sfriend hostage who has nothing to do with the police force or anyone for that matter. This turns into a tragic situation where Akane is not prepared or ready, and it becomes a helpless situation that ends up regretful.
5. Black Bullet Cliffhanger (last episode)
Black Bullet has a few brutal scenes, one of which involves “the cursed children” who are targeted and slaughtered for simply being different.
But the last episode of Black Bullet, which is a cliffhanger, is one of anime’s most savage moments and one that was completely unexpected.
You could call it a 360.
This cliffhanger hasn’t been resolved to this day with no 2nd season in sight.
6. Doctor Toshiio ties up his wife (Shiki)
Doctor Toshio is the MC of this series and an important character in how things progress. He himself never planned on doing what he did, but he did it anyway to find out the solution to defeating the “Shiki” who are terrorizing the village.
He uses his own wife, who has been infected, as a test subject and throws away all his morals, ethics, and standards to do it. He still loves her, but she’s beyond help so logically he makes a tough decision.
It’s absolutely brutal.
7. Sheele’s death (Akame Ga Kill)
Sheele is one of the most loved anime characters from
Kind, and compassionate, even when it comes to assassinations she maintains that compassion and empathy for each person she kills (whether they deserved it or not).
Things turn sour after her death. The sheer brutality of this entire episode and the scenes that follow up to it will never be forgotten by many.
It’s a critical moment for the entire series.
8. Doroka loses her eyes (Kingdom Of Ruins)
Doroka is one of the last surviving witches in this fucked up world. All the other witches were murdered, slaughtered, and destroyed in the name of “humanity” who discriminated against and feared the witches.
In one scene where she and Adonis fight for their lives, she ends up in a position where her eyes are TORN OUT of her head, and the whole scene is enough to make a person cringe at the violence.
There is no censoring either.
9. The murder of Ai (Oshi No Ko)
Episode 1 of Oshi No Ko was long and somewhat drawn out. But it was entertaining.
You see Ai’s life as an idol who’s still so young. She wears a mask (paraphrasing) and isn’t in love with the idol life like it might appear to her many fans.
She ends up having a baby to a certain guy, and that leads to her death which ends up being a brutal and a depressing scene, to say the least.
10. Goblin Slayer episode 1 (S1)
Goblin Slayer was released around the fall of 2018, and it became so controversial that Crunchyroll decided to ignore it in their “best anime of the year” list in a typical politically correct move.
The backlash from the anime involved the usual feminists who don’t leave their room and make Tweets all day about inequality from the comfort of their homes in Western countries.
That alone is why this episode has to be included in the most brutal anime scenes that will never be forgotten.
It’s not just brutal, it’s global.
11. The twins (Black Lagoon)
The twins in Black Lagoon are made to reflect Hanzel and Gretel which is a British story. These two twins in Black Lagoon have been through the most horrific of things for no fault of their own.
Child abuse puts it lightly.
This f*cks them up and makes them serial killers later in life, and their deaths are just as tragic and as brutal, and even sad as you’d expect.
12. Jackal annihilates the magic council (Fairy Tail – Tartaros Arc)
Fairy Tail isn’t known for brutality since it’s pretty PG most of the time. But when the 9 demon gates of Tartaros showed up, Jackal’s savagery was surprising and unusual for this series.
Lahar, one of the goody two shoes who works for the council is murdered instantly in the explosion caused by Jackal.
Same with all council members but one, who is then found and blown to bits right in front of the last surviving member who escapes with his life.
It was an introduction to what was to come in FT.
13. Keyaru’s Revenge scene (Redo Of Healer)
Everyone knows just how savage this episode was. There is no question in anyone’s mind that this episode was one of the most brutal anime scenes to ever have come out of the industry.
It’s even more surprising that the controversy for this series didn’t reach a peak and then smash through it (like Goblin Slayer or Shield Hero).
Still, the Keyaru revenge scene from Reedo Of Healer is as demonic as it gets.
14. Megumi gets run over and crushed (Shiki)
Megumi is the pink haired girl from Shiki, and one who after becoming a Shiki, still has her personality in tact. That personality is of a woman with not the best attitude.
In a way, it wasn’t too surprising or shocking once Megumi ended up on the other side of the wheels of a vehicle, only to be crushed to bits in one of the most savage murders in anime.
It was all in the name of survival as this is what the anime ends up becoming.
15. Shigaraki’s decay scene (MHA S6)
Shigaraki’s decay scene is one of fear and desperation as the heroes and everyone desperately flee for their lives from the NOMU laboratory.
Not everyone makes it out alive. Even eraserhead almost dies in the process, and then almost dies again later on when Shigaraki attempts to finish him off.
MHA has never had this level of brutality, and MHA S6 is full of it.
16. Krillin being blown to bits (DBZ)
Krillin in the Namek Saga was destroyed by Frieza, and he didn’t hold back. He did it to piss off Goku and get him as angry as possible, and it worked, turning Goku into a Super Saiyan.

17. Chelsea’s death (Akame Ga Kill)
Nobody can deny
You could say she filled the gap for Sheele and Bulat simultaneously.
This is why when she gets too excited at the thought of killing one of the enemies, which she does successfully, it ends up being tragic. The reason being after her successful kill, she then goes on to find another straggler and gets too cocky (that straggler is Kurome’ Akame’s sister).

18. Garfiel slaughters everyone (Re:Zero S2)
Re:Zero has many scenes to talk about. The bunny scene in season 2 for example is one of the most crude and evil scenes there is with its brutality and unfairness.
There’s Elza, the assassin, who disembowels Subaru many times. But when Garfiel goes on a rampage and literally tears everyone to pieces, this can be classed as one of the many brutal anime scenes as well.
Everyone is hopelessly trying to help Subaru escape the forest on that loop, and it ends horribly.
19. Heavenly Delusion’s last episode
And then there is the last episode of Heavenly Delusion, an underrated anime released in 2023 that brought something fresh to the table of supernatural and action anime.
The last episode, similar to Black Bullet, was absolutely shocking. That’s because of the build-up that takes place before it.
In fact, it might be one of the most brutal anime scenes on this list and beyond.
