Blonde hair in anime is a color that represents ALL kinds of personalities and traits.
There’s never “one” way to define it, unlike red-haired anime characters in comparison.
But with that said – you usually find these traits in blonde haired anime characters:
- Main characters.
- Wealthy.
- Beautiful.
- Tsundere.
And so many more.
Let’s get into the characters from a range of anime genres and shows.
The Best Blonde Haired Anime Characters:
1. Chitoge Kirisaki (Nisekoi)
Chitoge Kirisaki is a well-known blonde haired character in the anime community. For her Tsundere personality, beautiful design and “model” appearance in Nisekoi.
But unlike your typical Tsundere, there’s more to her personality than just not being honest and upfront with the person she loves.
Kirisaki is kind, childish and gets excited over the smallest things. She has a BIG heart, and that’s why she holds onto things if she’s hurt, and can be stubborn.
And even though she’s not the type to admit it – she cares a lot for anyone she considers “important”.
And won’t tolerate any disrespect.

2. Takumi Aldini (Food Wars)
Takumi Aldini, like his name implies, is Italian and comes from an Italian restaurant background with his brother in Food Wars.
Food is his LIFE.
It’s all he focuses on. After all – he has the skills to take it to a professional level, and so that’s what he strives for.
Sometimes he’s a little childish, just like Kirisaki from Nisekoi because he’s so competitive almost to a fault when it comes to his rivals. But really – he’s just ambitious and determined.
And he’s worthy support character who’s memorable and serves his own purpose.

3. Anzu Shiina (Flying Witch)
Anzu Shiina’s a character who shows up later in the Flying Witch anime.
If you’ve ever met someone who’s gentle enough to put you at ease, then you’ll understand what kind of character Anzu Shiina is.
She’s probably somewhere between an introvert. But when she talks – it’s soothing. Just like the “vibe” she gives off, and her personality from head to toe.
4. Milly Ashford (Code Geass)
Milly Ashford is another support character from this list.
In Code Geass – she’s one of the “school” mates of Lelouch Lamperouge, who loves to fool around and is a little sarcastic.
Not to mention she’s a student council president.
When you strip away all the humor from her role in Code Geass, especially early on, she’s got a good head on her shoulders and is smarter than she looks.
5. Mitsuba Sangu (Owari No Seraph)
Mitsuba Sangu is one of the “Tsundere” types as a blonde anime character. Just like Kirisaki Chitoge.
But unlike a “rom com series like Nisekoi. Owari No Seraph is an anime built around trauma and violence.
This is what shapes Mitsuba’s personality. When she gets angry, it’s because she cares about the other person MORE than they realize.
She wants others to feel safe and protected, and her anger, even if indirect, is an indication of how loyal she is to comrades and friends.
6. Lutz (Jormungand)
Lutz is a former Police sniper in Jormungand, before joining up with the main character: Koko Hekmatyar as a bodyguard.
Lutz is a chilled guy who likes to joke around with the team of bodyguards protecting Koko Hekmatyar. But at the same time – when it comes down to business, he doesn’t hesitate.
He’s one of the more “calm” characters in the series, even though his job is so grim and dangerous.
7. Irina Jelavic (Assassination Classroom)
Irina Jelavic is the “teacher” in Assassination Classroom, who steps in from time to time alongside Koro Sensei. The protagonist.
When she’s not being made fun of by the students because of her name, and when she’s not pissed of, she’s a woman with enough wisdom to make anyone pay attention.
Her line of work is associated with assassinations and murder (hit-woman), so it only goes without saying. Despite her
8. Maiko Shu (Nisekoi)
Maiko Shu is an obnoxious, annoying and over the top character in Nisekoi. He takes sarcasm to new levels of stupid. And it’s almost impossible to tell whether he’s being serious or not.
But there is a serious side to his personality. When you wipe away the “creepy” side to his personality, he’s one of the most loyal friends a guy could have.
He’ll do whatever it takes, in his own little way, to help you and set things straight. Or give you that “extra push” if needed.
9. Beatrice (Re:Zero – Starting Life In Another World)
Beatrice, nicknamed betty is a strange Loli character, who’s actually older than she looks.
In fact – she has an uncomfortable level of power for someone so small and delicate on the surface. But you don’t get to see much of it later into the series, since she’s a support character.
One of the most memorable things about Beatrice is her phrase: “I suppose”. She adds it to almost everything she says in a conversation.
It’s literally the one thing that makes Beatrice so famous, loveable and popular in the anime community of blonde characters and mages.
10. Ikumi Mito (Food Wars)
Ikumi Mito is the famous chef who specializes in “meat” and carvery in Food Wars. There’s no competition when it comes to this area of expertise.
She’s tanned and has a similar dress style to Yoko Littner from Gurren Lagann.
I suspect the “Mito” part of her name is play on the word “meat”, and is used on purpose to relate to her style of cooking in the anime series.
11. Maria Oosawa (Canaan)
Maria Oosawa is the optimistic type, who gets HYPE over the little things in life. Like taking a picture of the landscape, or snapping a photo of herself or another person.
Or even meeting her friend: Canaan. No matter what it is, Maria is happy, care free and has a spirit that’s so positive it’s contagious.
For that reason – she’s a different breed all together compared to your average blonde haired anime girl.
12. Bakugou Katsuki (My Hero Academia)
Bakugou Katsuki is a hot-headed, more extreme version of Chitoge Kirisaki. Because he’s a Tsundere who gets pissed off over the stupidest sh**.
Most of this stems from the insecurity of NOT being the “only” strong character with a quirk in MHA.
And a big part of his personality stems from being pampered as a child, only to have one of his childhood friends rise up the ranks so suddenly.
Bakugou gets so much hate because he’s a bully in the beginning. But this is one of the reasons he’s so popular. Because there’s a lot layers to his character, making him diverse and interesting.
13. Rio Nakamura (Assassination Classroom)
Rio Nakamura’s confidence shines. She won’t ever let you see her down and depressed. She’s too optimistic and jolly to allow that to happen.
That’s what you can appreciate about Nakamura in Assassination Classroom. That level of genuine confidence is hard to dislike because it’s so encouraging.
14. Saber (Fate Stay Night)
Saber is one of the more well-rounded female characters in the anime industry. And one of the most “respected” as a well-written character.
As a knight – she’ll lay down her life for you, because she’s loyal and believes in doing the right thing. No matter how tough the decision is.
And she fights with a purpose, refusing to settle for less or lower her standards for anyone. Even if it means death.
15. Yoshifumi Nitta (Hinamatsuri)
Yoshifumi Nitta’s a Yakuza member. And not just an ordinary member, but a gangster. But Hinamatsuri portrays a different side to his character.
Even gang members have “moments” when they live normal lives, visit their family, and do things for the neighbourhood where they can.
Niita is a prime example of this to an extent, and you get to see the more “calm” side to his lifestyle outside of the everyday routine of being a Yakuza.
16. Jeanne D’Arc (Fate Apocrypha)
Jeanne D’arc, like Saber, is based on mythology and history.
And no different to Saber, she’s done things that she “somewhat” regrets in the beginning, but manages to live with and even overcome with her iron-will and strong resolve.
She’s not the type to flaunt her strength, or brag about how powerful she is, but she can back it up if it comes down to it.
17. Violet Evergarden (Violet Evergarden)
Violet Evergarden is a gentle teenager who’s manipulated and taken advantage of for the wrong reasons.
During the war she’s used and abused for personal gain. And the only reason she knows how to speak English is because one man refused to let Violet be treated like trash. And his name is Gilbert.
That’s how Violet Evergarden becomes the person she is from episode 1, onwards. Beauty aside, she’s one of the most well-written female characters of all time if you ask me.
18. Sana Kashimura (Alice & Zouroku)
Sana Kashimura has the power to make the planet explode into 1000’s of pieces if she wanted to. Because she has the power to create anything through imagination.
In the anime it’s called “dreams of Alice”.
Sana is a run-away slave who escapes the laboratory that’s been experimenting on her for their own agendas. And is then adopted into a loving family where she learns what it means to feel love, happiness and joy for the first time in her childhood.
19. Gourry Gabriev (Slayers)
Gourry Gabriev comes across as a “dumb blonde” with no common sense, and someone who’s too slow to notice the most obvious things happening around him.
Particularly with women. But he’s not as stupid as he’s made out to be, and as a result of his flaws – he’s one of the purest, most honest and big-hearted anime characters.
With a contagious smile like Natsu Dragneel.
20. Anzu (Hinamatsuri)
Anzu from Hinamatsuri is so naïve it makes you wanna punch yourself. But at the same time she’s so confident and full of energy that it makes you curious and drawn to her personality.
In fact – in the beginning you might feel irritated by her personality. Until she warms on you later on when things get emotional and the feels start to hit you.
Anzu is that type of character. The type of character who’s heart is so big and non-judgmental, that there’s not enough room to fill it. It helps that she’s well-written as well.
21. Sachiko Tanaka (Denpa Kyoushi)
Sachiko Tanaka reminds me of myself. She’s creative and has no issue with SELLING her work and being paid to do it.
She believes in her art a lot, and most of her time and energy is spent on getting better and doing the one thing she loves more than anything else.
That’s why she skips school a lot in the anime: Denpa Kyoushi, and I’d do the same thing in her shoes.
22. Mikaela Hyakuya (Owari No Seraph)
Mikaela Hyakuya is an emotional wreck for the majority of Owari No Seraph. Which is the complete opposite of who he is before tragedy strikes, and his childhood friends needlessly die trying to escape in episode 1.
This makes Mikaela emotional, closed off and introverted. And the only thing running his mind is the thought of Yuu, the only childhood friend he has left.
In a way, you do feel for Mikaela’s circumstances and state of mind. And overall, as a character, he’s memorable, if not a little weird and that makes him one of a kind.
23. Mami Tomoe (Madoka Magica)
Mami Tomoe’s the mentor, “big sister” magical girl that everyone else looks up to. And seeks out for guidance on “what to do” and how to make the right decisions.
And even though Mami Tomoe appears tough and chipper on the outside, she’s anything but that. Mami stands tall and puts on a brave face for those around her.
It’s that kind of person she is. A person who chooses to focus on the best parts of her life, rather than getting lost in the past and the things she’s unable to change.
24. Keita Tsuwabuki (Good Luck Girl)
Keita Tsuwabuki is the “poor” character in Good Luck Girl. The guy who’s mocked and disrespected for the way he lives, and the way he “thinks” about
He’s a stand up guy who single handedly takes care of a handful of siblings. And he does it without complaining about the hardships, struggles and challenges he’s forced to face head on.
That makes Keita Tsuwabuki a special type of “blonde haired” anime character, because few of them have life as hard as he does. And he takes full responsibility and you can’t knock a guy like that.

25. Alicia Florence (Aria The Animation)
Alicia Florence is the friend you’d have that’s always there to listen whenever you have problems you wanna talk about. Or the “mother” like-figure who will take care of you and do everything in her heart to make sure you’re happy from the inside out.
She’s the one character in Aria The Animation almost everyone looks up to in admiration. Because of her approachable personality, and gentle, humble nature.
And like most characters of this style, there’s plenty to learn from her words of wisdom.
26. Shiemi Moriyama (Blue Exorcist)
Shiemi Moriyama is like a younger, more fragile version of Alicia Florence. Because she’s so gentle, thoughtful of others, always kind and smiling. Even if you happen to her enemy.
That’s how pure of heart Shiemi is a character. And she has her moments in Blue Exorcist where she “shines”. Blue Exorcist wouldn’t be the same without her
27. Zeno (Yona Of The Dawn)
Zeno opens his heart out to anyone who’s willing to accept him. In fact – he’ll do it regardless, and he won’t think anything of it.
He has “selective” hearing and chooses positivity over anything else. And I doubt there’s a character who compares for open-minded and accepting he is of others.
28. Leone (Akame Ga Kill)
Leone’s a personal favorite.
She lights up everyone’s mood and won’t allow you to not smile or enjoy yourself in her presence. She’s just jolly and “happy go lucky” for all that depressing sh**.
That makes her annoying in the eyes of people who can’t be like that. But it’s her one quality that’s always on display throughout
And that’s despite the anime itself being so dark and cut-throat.
29. Yasuko Takasu (Toradora)
Yasuko Takasu is the air-headed mother of Ryuuji Takasu in
Even when it feels unnecessary to behave that way.
She’s one of the best anime mothers around and of course – she has blonde hair. Adding to “some” of the cliches connected to her personality.
30. Hikari Takanashi (Demi Chan)
Imagine you’re bored, and you know there’s that one person you can count on to make you laugh, cheer you up, and make your day a little brighter.
Well, that describes Hikari Takanashi in a nutshell.
She’s that kind of character, and she’s full-on sarcastic and sometimes a bit of an antagonist (antagonizes people).
But when she’s not fooling around and bouncing off walls because she’s so energetic, Hikari is always there for you and have a good time.
31. Usui Takumi (Maid Sama)
Usui Takumi is the “troll” girlfriend in Maid Sama. Always mocking and antagonising Misaki Ayuzawa for one thing or another. And being “called out” for his strange, and sometimes contradicting behaviour.
He’s not the most straightforward guy, but he’s funny as F and won’t hesitate to clown around. Even in serious situations.
And then there’s the romantic side of Usui Takumi. The way he “protects” and supports Misaki Ayuzawa is a nice contrast female fans will appreciate. And anime fans in general.
32. Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist)
Edward Elric. The smart-mouthed little sh** from
You’ll either find him annoying, a pest, overrated or relatable and comical.
He’s the kind of main protagonist who’s binary. Meaning you love or hate him for his personality. You’ll never be “neutral” because he has a strong personality.
It’s the opposite to his younger brother, who’s more calm, silent, introverted and soft-spoken.
it’s this duo that makes FMA so entertaining.
Honorable Mentions:
- Karen Tendou (Gamers).
- Saber Of Red (Fate Apocrypha).
- Umaru Doma (Umaru Chan).
- Kou Yagami (New Game!).
- Oda Nobuna (The Ambition Of Oda Nobuna).
- Naruto).
- Gai Tsutsugami (Guilty Crown).
