22+ Of The Most Submissive Anime Girls You’ll Ever See

Submissive anime girls, similar to submissive women in real life, are misjudged and mislabeled for being something they’re not.

Like:

  • Weak spirited.
  • Spinless.
  • No backbone.
  • Slave-ish.
  • No independent thought.
  • Being a mug.

And things of that nature, but that’s not what it means to be submissive.

Being submissive in the context of romance is about trust, appeal, respect, and kindness.

Let’s focus on characters who fit this role in a romantic context, despite also having other more domineering characteristics in other cases.

Here’s a list.

1. Belldandy (Oh My Goddess)

Belldandy Oh My Goddess waifu

Belldandy is a kind woman who happens to be an actual goddess. And is the type of woman who is devoted to whoever she chooses as her trustworthy partner.

We see this in the anime when she meets her partner, regardless of how that comes to be, and the genuine effort she makes to be the best partner she can be.

Submissive but strong. Feminine but is NOT to be messed with. And will fight for those she loves most despite being a kind soul.

2. Miyo Saimori (My Happy Marriage)

Miyo Saimori My Happy Marriage waifu

Miyo Saimori is a tragic character in the early stages of My Happy Marriage. The first episode shows this when Miyo is being shunned and disrespected by her own family because of “status” and other related aspects.

Still, she goes on to be part of a happy marriage and finds the right person for her without changing herself to fit the glove, so to speak.

She doesn’t allow the evil of others to shift who she truly is on the inside.

3. Nagisa Furukawa (Clannad)

Nagisa Furukawa Clannad kyoani anime

Nagisa Furukawa is quiet, like a few others in the anime series. She’s also a little on the anaemic side and is a strong character despite her not being the flashiest.

While she can be kind and thoughtful of others, she’s not one to let others have their way, which is especially true as her self-confidence continues to grow.

4. Ruka Sarashina (Rent A Girlfriend)

Ruka Sarashina Rent A Girlfriend cutie

Ruka Chan appears to be the annoying female character who falls for Kazuma and is the most honest about it, but she warms on the audience in the early stages of Rent A Girlfriend.

Ruka is the type of girl who devotes herself to her partner, though a bit foolish in her case (and naive). Still, her seriousness about being the best she can be in a relationship is a positive quality.

5. Esdeath (Akame Ga Kill)

Esdeath Akame Ga Kill cute blush

Esdeath is the last person you’d expect on a list like this. She’s a savage, grew up a savage, believes the weak deserve to die, and the strong rule over others.

And yet, when it comes to relationships, Esdeath is the most submissive and dedicated woman there is despite her usual domineering and leadership traits.

She’s the perfect blend of a woman who has confidence and will let her demands be known, shamelessly, but is very submissive and thoughtful to her partner. To the point of even making compromises if needed.

6. Princess Hibana (Fire Force)

Princess Hibana Fire Force beautiful

Hibana, or “princess hibana” as she’s called, is a powerful character in the fire force series. And takes a villain role for a short while in the early stages of the anime.

We can also see later how she behaves towards those she likes a lot, and how her attitude can shift a little and how she can be more submissive than it appears she’s capable of.

In this way, she’s a lot like Esdeath. She strikes a balance.

7. Yū Ibara (Ryuugajou Nanana)

Yu Ibara Ryuugajou Nanana yandere

Yu Ibara is a yandere from the anime Ryuugajou Nanana. She is aggressive, jealous, head over heels for whoever she falls for, and will naively do anything they say.

In short, she’s unstable. But nonetheless, she’s still a submissive female character.

Just one with a lot of flaws.

8. Yotsuba Nakano (Quintessenital Quintuplets)

Yotsuba Nakano Quintessential Quintuplets green ribbon

Yotsuba has always been the “sunshine” sister of the group. The one who’s always happy on the outside, a bit of a people pleaser, and isn’t the best at prioritising what she wants over anything else.

But with time, she learns, she evolves, and she becomes better. And she even has a more “cheeky” side to her personality that only shows up when she’s interested romantically.

The end result of this series with Yotsuba is not surprising.

9. Yunyun (Konosuba)

Yunyun Konosuba pointing finger cute

Yunyun is the supporting female character in the main Konosuba series and one of the MAIN female characters in the prequel series to Konosuba.

She’s kind, attentive, positive, practical, and has a level head on her that makes her the ideal partner (relationship or otherwise).

Yunyun can be naive at times and a little too kind, but she has the best intentions and is one of the smartest female characters there is when all is said and done.

10. Mio Kofune (Summer Time Rendering)

Mio Kofune Summer Time Rendering tears blue eyes

Mio Kofune is the supporting character in this show where strange things take place, the violence is extreme, and the brutality is unforgiving.

Mio is the stand-out character with a darker skin tone, black hair, and more subtle characteristics than other characters.

She’s a little too quiet and has a lot to learn, but is one of the highlights of Summertime Rendering for reasons I won’t spoil.

11. Juvia Lockser (Fairy Tail)

Juvia Lockser Fairy Tail blue hair cutie

Juvia is a crazy female character on the surface. She’s madly in love when she’s around Gray Fullbuster and even says so.

She doesn’t hesitate for anyone and is shameless in her pursuit of love and affection from the one she truly feels for.

This devotion is just right for some, but for characters like Gray, it’s a little overbearing in the beginning.

Still, Juvia is not a pushover in the slightest as a person. She’s passionate, moral, strong, and relentless.

12. Rem (Re:Zero)

Rem Re Zero with subaru

Rem is the sister with the horn, blue hair, and the one who is suspicious of Subaru when he comes to the mansion. She is more naive and judgmental than her sister, or at least less logical and practical.

These flaws show early, but she does make progress because of the plot and how it’s all tied together.

Rem is a devoted, powerful character who’s not to be messed with and is extremely aggressive when angered towards others.

13. Marika Tachibana (Nisekoi)

Marika Tachibana Nisekoi cutie e1689349041244

Marika Tachibana is another aggressive female character, but one who’s aggressive and feminine at the same time. Aggressive but in a more lighthearted, positive way.

She’s relaxed, cheerful, happy, and knows what she wants. And isn’t afraid to go after it.

She’s confident. She doesn’t leave anything to chance. And, of course, she is also submissive to the right person.

14. Zero Two (Darling In The Franxx)

Zero Two Darling In The Franxx darling character

Zero Two is also a submissive character. But only for the right person. She’s strong, a leader, and clings close to whoever her match is.

Her iconic line “darling” is also still put into memes to this day, making her a memorable character who will be around for a long time.

15. Himeno (Chainsaw Man)

himeno chainsaw man eye patch kawaii

Himeno, with the eye patch, comes across as silly, sarcastic, and a girl who has a good sense of humour. She also appears happy, but a lot of it is masking her sadness.

She’s a woman who feels deeply for those she loves the most and will give herself entirely to whoever she loves.

Himeno is submissive but not weak by any stretch of the imagination.

16. Itsuwa (A Certain Magical Index)

Itsuwa A Certain Magical Index ep 8 s3

Itsuwa knows how to fight with a staff and can wield powerful magic. She’s a skilled fighter and is more adept than her appearance would have you believe.

In the context of romance, she’s devoted, enjoys cooking for others, especially those she’s fond of most, and is a very feminine female character.

She#s not afraid to ask or fight for what she wants, but she’s also kind and pleasant.

17. Lum (Urusei Yatsura)

lum urusei yatsura cutie

Lum is a girl who is kind, depending on who she’s dealing with and how far you push her or try to take the piss.

On the one hand, she’s compassionate, has a high threshold for anger (meaning it takes a lot to piss her off), and believes in a traditional relationship.

But only if the situation fits.

The anime is a parody, so you’ll see a lot of silliness, but when all is said and done, Lum is submissive, loving, and one of the most positive characters around.

18. Darkness Lalatina (Konosuba)

Darkness Lalatina Konosuba subtitles e1689348995614

Lalatina, a name she hates being called, is a princess who hides it for personal reasons. She’s compassionate, moral in most ways, and will give her life for the right cause.

She is a knight, after all.

But she is also a masochist, and this plays into her submissive attitude.

19. Mahiru Shiina (The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten)

Mahiru Shiina The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten blushing cute pout

Mahiru Shiina, the angel, is a quiet girl, according to everyone else. She doesn’t say much, or only says as much as is needed, and is kind to everyone around her.

She’s “perfect”.

In reality, she puts barriers up and can be insecure, but she still won’t tolerate nonsense from anyone, and her barriers show it, even if subtly.

Besides, her respect for others, even those she disagrees with, makes her so likeable that many are willing to stand up for her if needed.

20. Orihime Inoue (Bleach)

Orihime Inoue Bleach hair e1689348940214

Orihime Inoue is the orange haired female character from Bleach, the same hair colour as Ichigo Kurosaki.

Some fans can’t stand her because “she’s weak” or because she can be too nice, but it’s more like people who can’t understand her are annoyed at her positive qualities that they don’t have in themselves.

She’s empathetic to an extreme, but it’s not pity at all. She’s kind to a fault, but it’s not a weakness.

She’s endured a lot in life, and yet she still remains mostly pure and kind, which says a lot about her as a person, making her likeable and easy to be friends with.

21. Kosaki Onodera (Nisekoi)

Kosaki Onodera Nisekoi blushing cute number 12

Kosaki Onodera is the supporting character of Nisekoi and the childhood friend of Raku, whose family is part of a gang.

Like many childhood friends, she’s not willing to confess and say what she truly feels. She’s too shy, timid, and sensitive about other people’s opinions (more so if she respects them).

On the bright side, she’s a positive character and is always the bigger person in situations where others would crumble or do something they may regret.

And she’s the type of person you’d want to be around.
