Certain types of anime shows pop up more than others, and for different reasons.
Some of them being:
- Popularity.
- Commonalities.
- Likeability.
- Acceptance.
- Dosage (how much of something).
And things of that nature determine whether these types of anime shows will keep being made or not.
Let’s talk about it.
Common types of anime shows:
1. Humans vs monsters
The anime airing right now is a perfect example of this called Heavenly Delusion. It’s about humans who live in the outside world, faced with man-eating creatures they have to kill to survive.
Many don’t have the means to pull it off though except the main characters who have a special gun, and a special power.
Attack On Titan is also an anime with the “humans vs monsters” element.
A better example is the anime Kabaneri Of The Iron Fortress, though you could also argue that anime like Shiki have an element of this as well.
2. Romance with humans and non-humans
Anime shows that feature humans in relationships with non-humans, or who “fancy”
One lewd-ish example would be Monster Musume, but that’s more on the lighter side of things.
Mushoku Tensei would be an example. And anime like My Bride Is A Mermaid would be an even better example of this type of anime show.
A mermaid and a human who are engaged to be married.
3. Anti-heroes who walk the tight rope
Anime like Code Geass are a good example of this. Lelouch just wants to save and protect his sister. It’s all he has left in the world of Code Geass.
She means more to him than anything.
He goes to the extremes to create a world where she can be safe, including betrayal, murder, carnage, and savagery in the pursuit of power to make this happen.
In some ways he’s justified, but not in all ways. This type of anime show will never get old or go out of style.
4. Reincarnation
I know a lot of fans hate it but
What will happen over time is these types of anime shows will introduce new ways to reincarnate characters and make them more unique and creative to avoid doing the same stale thing 100 times.
In fact, it’s already happening. Anime like The Executioner And Her Way Of Life did this.
5. Fanservice -filled anime
This has been a thing ever since the explosion of anime in the 2000s and especially in the 2010s. With anime shows like Date A Live,
These types of anime shows thrive off
These anime are less prevalent than you think since
6. Teacher-student types of anime
Types of anime shows where there’s a sensei and a student. Or even a Senpai and a Kouhai.
These types of anime are common, popular, and never get old.
It’s because there’s always something to learn from these shows, these characters, and there’s always something to relate to since there’s always someone older or younger than you with more or less experience.
7. Weird anime shows
Dog & Scissors is the anime I’ll always mention when it comes to weird anime shows, and not for good reason. The anime is weird as F, deranged, strange, and fetishy in all the wrong ways.
A woman who finds out a man who died is reincarnated as a dog, and she then starts to lirt and be sexually attracted to this animal.
This is the basis of the plot and the weird shit that takes place.
Weird anime will always exist as a type of anime to watch.
8. Anime shows with fetish material
Moving on from the last point, anime with fetish material will always be a common and popular type of anime series.
- Monster Musume.
- Nekopara.
- Ishuzoku Reviewers.
These are only 3 anime shows that fit the bill and match it in so many ways.
Women of all kinds of races, faces, body types, and weight. It’s a fetish paradise.
9. Wholesome anime shows
In the last 5 years,
This year we’ve had:
- Ice Guy And The Cool Female Colleague.
- A Galaxy Next Door.
- Tonikaku
KAWAII S2. - Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible.
- Insomiancs After School.
And other anime that are wholesome, relaxing, chilled, and full of diabetes.
Last year we had shows like When Will Ayumu Make His Move and so much more. Same during the pandemic with anime like Non Non Biyori S3.
10. Anime where the MC is stereotypically attractive
This type of anime show will always be popular because who doesn’t wanna be attractive in a stereotypical sense?
It happens with both male and female anime characters.
There’s Himuro in the anime Ice Guy And The Cool Female Colleague. For female characters, there’s Watanabe from More Than A Married Couple, But Not Lovers.
This will never get old.
11. Educational anime shows
Anime shows that teach you something new, that you can learn from, and that deliberately educate you on certain topics will always be a type of anime show worth creating.
Cells At Work did it with their approach to red blood cells, white blood cells, viruses, cancer, biology, and so much more from a creative, aesthetically pleasing point of view.
Heavens
Then you have anime that you can learn from more subtly or not so subtly, like Jormungand, Clannad, Attack On Titan,
12. Anime that obsess over Western culture
You know the ones.
The anime characters are either Western-influenced or outright Western with blonde hair, and blue eyes, from England, America, or some other shit.
This happens every single season of the year, every single year, with new anime, shows that come out and air.
It’s not going out of style any time soon.
13. Anime with supernaturally strong characters
The most popular type of anime show there is. Where there are supernaturally strong characters with superpowers, magic, superstrength, or something similar.
These types of anime are popular with all ages, not just teens, and they have a lot of longevity because of how you can expand the character’s powers, abilities, progress, what they learn, capabilities, and more.
Examples include Railgun, MHA,
