21+ Of The Greatest Romance Anime Waifus Of All Time!

Romance anime waifus are the types who are featured in:

  • Romance anime exclusively.
  • And anime shows that tie in with romance.

Sometimes the romance in a series and between its characters comes to a conclusion, they get married, etc, or sometimes not. Or even worse, it can be tragic.

Still, it’s the “waifu” that counts.

With that in mind, this is what we’ll focus on in this post when talking about romance and waifus in the same breath.

Here’s a list.

1. Charlotte Evans (I’m Giving the Disgraced Noble Lady I Rescued a Crash Course in Naughtiness)

Charlotte Evans Im Giving the Disgraced Noble Lady I Rescued a Crash Course in Naughtiness waifu

Charlotte is the female main character of the airing series during the fall of 2023. She escapes and stumbles into a forest where she runs out of energy and collapses.

She’s being chased after being falsely accused of doing something she didn’t, and therefore abandoned by her kingdom.

This is where Allen, the “demon lord” finds her, saves her, and takes her in after learning her story. And the wholesomeness of this series (thanks in part to Charlotte) begins.

She’s a kind character and the type of person who can do no wrong.

2. Hasuki Komai (Boarding School Juliet)

Hasuki Komai Boarding School Juliet brown hair e1699986138718

In this anime, there are two main female characters. There is Hasuki Komai, the one who’s a childhood friend of the MC, and then there’s the blonde girl called Persia.

Hasuki is loyal but the kind of person who holds others accountable and takes responsibility for all her actions.

She’s upstanding, morally correct, and has leadership skills as well despite her size and appearance.

3. Mahiru Shiina (Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten)

Mahiru Shiina Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten waifu

Mahiru Shiina is the angel of the school who’s perfect and can do no wrong in the eyes of everyone, girls and boys included. She gets good grades, helps others, and is polite, and generous.

But in truth, there is more to her than meets the eye, which the male MC finds out after helping her one time when it was raining outside.

They both are neighbours, and this is how their bond inevitably starts to build when Mahiru returns the favour owed.

Mahiru is one of the most pleasant and feminine anime waifus to ever walk the industry.

4. Shiori Goshiki (A Galaxy Next Door)

Shiori Goshiki A Galaxy Next Door waifu

Shiori Goshiki is obsessed with manga after learning and reading about it, and she travels to Japan to work under a manga author and get deeper into the industry as far as knowledge and expertise.

In truth, Shiori leaves her island without warning and essentially “runs away” to do it. She finally rebels despite being a sweet person in general.

Manga, writing, working together, collaboration, and wholesome romance is what you find with Shiori in this ainme.

5. Mikoto Suou (School Rumble)

Mikoto Suou School Rumble waifu

Mikoto Suou can be compared to later characters like Mikoto Misaka or even past characters like Natsumi Tsujimoto from You’re Under Arrest.

She’s good at sports, knows martial arts, and can kick the asses of most who challenge her, boys included.

Still, while she acts flustered and can easily be embarrassed, she’s still a girly character and one of many great female characters from the School Rumble series.

6. Minori Kushieda (Toradora)

Minori Kushieda Toradora cute kawaii

Minori Kushieda is the supporting character of the series, but a very relevant one to the point where she’s like a main character.

She’s funny, sarcastic as can be, knows how to have fun, and is the type of person to make you laugh even if it’s the first time meeting her.

She’s comfortable in her skin for the most part and confident. Only in the realm of “love” does this change and show a different side to her character.

7. Miyo Saimori (My Happy Marriage)

Miyo Saimori My Happy Marriage long hair

Miyo is the girl who’s enslaved in her family, essentially. She’s made to do all the work and leave away for others in her family because of her so-called “Low” status and the hatred they have for her deceased mother.

When she moved to a household to marry a certain someone, her life changed for the better to her surprise. And this is where the “My happy marriage” title comes into play.

Miyo is pleasant, and gentle, but lacks self-esteem which she slowly builds up and starts to shine as the series progresses.

8. Asuna Yuuki (Sword Art Online)

Asuna Yuuki Sword Art Online flash

Asuna, or lightning flash Asuna is one of the lead characters in the series besides Kirito, the man she’s engaged to and in a relationship with.

At first, Asuna is standoff-ish, hard to approach, and doesn’t seem energetic or magnetic. But as her situation gets less serious and they complete the death game of season 1, her personality opens up even more and she’s her usual bright self.

Asuna’s standing in the anime community is clear and solidified as a romance anime waifu.

9. Kosaki Onodera (Nisekoi)

Kosaki Onodera Nisekoi waifu

Kosaki Onodera is the pleasant character of Nisekoi, and also the intoverted childhood character of Ichijou, the male MC.

She’sthe type of person who can doubt herself and underestimate her abilities, like a lot of people I suppose, and her introversion can get in the way of what she wants at times.

It’s more accurate to say her social anxiety is what stands in her way.

With a friend or a wife like Kosaki, you’d never have to worry about being betrayed or having your life’s secrets being spread about behind your back.

10. Zero Two (Darling In The Franxx)

Zero Two Darling In The Franxx waifu

Zero Two is the pink-haired dinosaur waifu who brought back to life the word “darling”, which LUM started with Urusei Yatsura in the 1980s.

She’s become so iconic with the word darling that Zero Two is almost synonymous with it.

She’s a strong character who’s had to endure a lot for her differences.

11. Yuigahama (Oregairu)

Yuigahama Oregairu waifu

Yuigahama is one of the relevant female characters throughout the 3 seasons of this anime. She’s the upbeat, cheerful, happy, energetic, and extroverted character of the show.

The complete opposite of the two other main characters of this series.

This leads her to be called “nice girl” because while she appears nice, this can also be the reason that many people are hurt by her when rejected romantically.

Many feel like she should have been chosen in the end, but that’s not how the velvet cookie crumbled.

12. Marin Kitagawa (My Dress Up Darling)

Marin Kitagawa My Dress Up Darling waifu

Marin Kitagawa is an Otaku who also wears a white shirt, is unafraid to speak her mind and share her interests, and stands up for others.

She’s the “Popular” otaku because of her personality, extroversion, and magnetic energy.

Few would debate whether she’s one of the best romance waifu or not.

13. Holo The Wise Wolf

Holo The Wise Wolf tail

Holo The Wise Wolf, self-proclaimed, is the wolf found in hay outside a church as the series begins. Kraft Lawrence, the one who finds her, starts travelling alongside Holo for her knowledge and wisdom.

In turn, she benefits from Kraft’s business expertise and experience (how they make money).

Holo’s romance in the series is both wholesome and pleasant to see. It’s not forced or overly dramatic to get a reaction.

It’s realistic if anything.

14. Tsukasa Yuzaki (Tonikaku KAWAII)

Tsukasa Yuzaki Tonikaku KAWAII waifu

Tsukasa Tsukuyomi, later named Yuzaki after getting married, is such a waifu that she appears in meme after meme comparing her to Speedwagon. And even saying she’s better (true).

After saving her soon-to-be husband’s life, and having some mystery to her own backstory, Tsukasa lives with her husband as they start their new life. First in a smaller house, and then a bigger one later.

She has red eyes and red hair.

15. Yotsuba Nakano (Quintessential Quintuplets)

Yotsuba Nakano Quintessential Quintuplets waifu

Yotsuba is the type of girl who always tries to do more than she needs to for others, and always puts herself last in favour of putting others ahead of her wants.

This makes her unhappy at times until she finally starts going after the things she wants without making excuses.

Yotsuba is a nice and pleasant character and one who is a bit of a klutz compared to her other sisters.

16. Shirayuki (Snow White With The Red Hair)

Shirayuki Snow White With The Red Hair short hair

Shirayuki, the girl with red hair, is judged, criticized, or praised because of her red hair and she’s used to it by now.

After meeting Zen, the white-haired prince of the kingdom, her life and the things she gets up to starts to change and vice versa for Zen who hates the duties of a prince.

They both rebel and go against tradition, and this also plays into their romance and affection for each other.

Shirayuki is a hard-working person who doesn’t waste energy when it’s time to grind, put in the work, and get done what needs to be accomplished.

She’s also more insightful and intelligent than people tend to realize.

17. Maoyu (Maou Yuusha)

maoyu maou yuusha red hair

Maoyu is the female demon lord of this series, but not one who is bad or evil. After meeting Yuusha (Yuusha means hero, Maou means demon), they both fall for each other and end up in a relationship.

Together they help educate the people and help them build things so they can prosper.

Maou is a lot more unrestricted when together with Yuusha and more flustered and even clingy than she appears in other situations.

18. Sun Seto (My Bride Is A Mermaid)

Sun Seto My Bride Is A Mermaid waifu

Sun Seto is the daughter and one of the important members of the Yakuza family in My Bride Is A Mermaid. But she’s not wicked or cruel in the slightest.

She’s like an angel born into the wrong family.

With the power of a mermaid at her side, she has strong supernatural abilities but this isn’t the focus of the show. It’s her romance and marriage with Nagasumi, who she decides to get engaged with after he almost drowns in the ocean.

19. Utaha Kasumigaoka (How To Raise A Boring Girlfriend

Utaha Kasumigaoka How To Raise A Boring Girlfriend kawaii

Utaha Kasumigaoka is a best-selling author who’s sold over half a million copies of her work. This is how she gets paid and is able to make a living.

She’s independent-minded, introverted, and bold when it comes to romance.

She’s one of the many female characters in this harem/ecchi series, but the anime and its plot are more interesting than the average harem or ecchi could ever be.

20. Julis Alexia (Asterisk War)

Julis Alexia Asterisk War pink hair

Julis is the pink-haired princess of her kingdom, but she’s on a mission to win the Festa (a tournament) and use the extra funds to support the orphanage back home that she funds out of her own pocket.

She’s more ethical and grounded than the average person in her situation, and she has a lot of guts and a fighting spirit.

21. Lum (Urusei Yatsura)

Marika Tachibana Nisekoi ep 16

Lum is the alien girl who after running into the male MC, ends up in a relationship with him after a certain game they play.

She’s loyal, down to earth, hard to piss off, and sometimes so laid back that things just don’t bother her.

Being a parody series, the romance here isn’t to be taken too seriously but there are a lot of serious moments where the romance takes a turn for the better.

22. Marika Tachibana (Nisekoi)

Marika Tachibana Nisekoi cute kawaii e1699986012625

Marika is one of the best but somewhat aggressive romance waifus who goes after what she wants, who she wants and doesn’t care for other people’s feelings on the matter.

She doesn’t get caught up in what someone else might want, only what she wants but in a way that’s not selfish or self-centered.

One thing she has is confidence, assertiveness, and courage.
