Blue Exorcist is an anime with a main character who’s the son of Satan. So he’s part demon.

Growing up like this has made life a b*tch for Rin Okumura since most have shunned and even bullied him for it. Causing him to get into fights and trouble.

Halloween isn’t all about blood, violence, or horror in particular. And besides – Blue Exorcist fits the mood.

3. Mirai Nikki

Mirai Nikki is another official horror anime on this list. And one with psychological elements, so you get to see some twisted characters. And dark backstories.

Yuno Gasai, one-half of the main characters, is one of the reasons the Yandere trope is so popular.

Yuki Amano, the other MC, is being stalked by her. But the anime opens up to a world that goes beyond these 2 characters.

4. Akame Ga Kill

Akame Ga Kill is about a bunch of assassins set on destroying the corrupt government and creating a revolution. They’re not alone in their thinking either.

From the first episode, this anime sets you on the dark road the main characters have chosen to walk down. And the anime doesn’t shy away from horrific violence.

After all – the story and what’s happening within it is horrific in itself. So it’s only natural that comes with it.

5. Blood+

Blood+ is a horror anime about Saya and her partner who protects her life. It’s also about Saya’s sister called Diva.

6. Black Bullet

Black Bullet is about the Gastrea, a type of monster that almost destroys Tokyo. And a set of children infected with the Gastrea virus.

These children are called “the cursed children” because of it, and humans fear them. Even though they protect humans with their supernatural powers.

Black Bullet is darker than let’s say, Blood+ in its own ways. And has similarities with Attack On Titan.

7. Shiki

Shiki is an anime about creatures similar to Vampires, but they’re more like demons. One bite is all it takes to transform humans into a thing called “Shiki”.

Doctor Toshio, one of the most relevant characters in Shiki, becomes a great character as the anime progresses.

Without spoiling too much, this anime gets extremely dark the further you go into it. And it’s worth the wait.

8. D. Gray Man

D. Gray Man is like a “demon” version of Bleach or another comparable Shonen with dark elements.

Allen Walker, the main character, is able to see demons, ghosts and the dead in general. His left eye is cursed. Along with his hand.

Just like in Bleach, in this anime – demons are purged by a group known as the black order. And the supernatural humans who work for an organization.

9. Another

Another is a classic horror series that represents horror every step of the way.

It’s one bad thing right after another, and usually, it’s graphic and obscene.

The main character: Mei Misaki is an introvert with an eye patch. And she’s not wearing it for the sake of it.

There’s a series of events playing out in her school, where students and everyone nearby is dying at random. Sometimes by suicide or other extreme methods that can cause death.

10. Death Note

Death Note is a classic, and there will never be anything like death note. It deserves all the hype it gets.

Being the type of anime it is, it’s a perfect fit for Halloween time.

The main character: Light Yagami ends up with a death note that falls out of the sky. And then he goes on to murder anyone he sees as “bad” within the society he lives in.

Goblin Slayer is overhyped as a horror series, meaning fans put too much focus on the first episode.

Even with all that said, it’s a decent anime series with plenty of adventure, action, and even some comedy between the main characters.

You can think of it as a “horror” version of Konosuba or something along those lines.

12. God Eater

God Eater is one of the most violent, detestable series on this list. The kind of things you see in this anime is a true representation of what “horror” means.

This anime also has CGI animation, but not the sh*t kind you’re used to seeing. The animation is flawless, and the designs are gorgeous.

Everything looks good in God Eater and is done in a way most anime can’t compare to. That’s why the violence is so severe.

13. Kabaneri Of The Iron Fortress

Kabaneri Of The Iron Fortress is about a monster called Kabani, and the two main characters who share Kabani blood.

This makes them supernaturally strong.

They use this power to fight against the Kabani and protect what they have left of the world the Kabani have torn away from them, and human society as a whole.

It’s an underrated series that’s overshadowed by more popular shows like Attack On Titan (same studio).

14. Psychic Detective Yakumo

Psychic Detective Yakumo is about Yakumo, a guy with an eye that can see spirits. Similar to how Allen Walker from D. Gray Man can see spirits with one eye in particular.

A girl named Haruka runs into Yakumo because of an incident, and they both end up sticking by each other as Yakumo heads out for detective work.

Ghosts, spirits, spooky scenes and cases, this is what you can expect to see from this anime series.

It’s surprisingly good for an obscure anime and fits the mood perfectly with its Halloween vibes.

15. Blood C

Blood C is an anime series that’s a little different from Blood+, the original series. For one – Blood C is beyond violent.

It’s considered one of the bloodiest anime ever made. With the most horrific acts, murders, slicing and dicing, and everything else relating to its action.

You can’t go in expecting Blood C to be a masterpiece of a series with stellar writing or a phenomenal plot. It’s not gonna happen.

But if you go in expecting horror and something fit for Halloween, there are no complaints. It fits the bill.

16. Mieruko-Chan

Mieruko Chan is a new anime series that started airing in October 2021. It’s about Miko, a girl who can see ghosts and spirits.

She ignores them to avoid anything bad from happening and to keep them at bay so they don’t pursue her. But it’s written in a comedic, but still horrific kind of way.

She has bags under her eyes because of the torment and abuse from ghosts who stalk her, provoke her, and try to force her into acknowledging their existence.

Apparently, the manga doesn’t have fan service, but the anime has a tendency to point the camera at certain body parts in different scenes.

17. Elfen Lied

Elfen Lied is a cruel anime series about humans and the life forms they create called Diclonius. They have vectors and horns that differentiate them.

These vectors can rip anything to pieces from a distance, and this plays into the anime’s bloody mess and violence as soon as episode 1 begins.

The plot is about Lucy, a Diclonius who escapes the lab and is now being hunted down by the same people who made her and enslaved her for their experiments.

She runs into Kouta, a guy who lets her live with him after finding her unconscious on a beach.

Expect some twisted romance, sickening aspects like child abuse and animal abuse, and hypocrisy which shows the darkest sides of human nature.

18. Soul Eater

Soul Eater is one of the most Halloween-like anime shows out there. You see pumpkins and all kinds of things that symbolize Halloween.

It’s about a school run by Lord Death, a powerful man who trains students to destroy demons. By doing so, what they call” Meisters” can level up and become stronger.

This anime is made by Studio Bones and is an underrated Shonen from the 2000s.

The art style is still fresh and modern.
