When you hear about Princesses, you think of them as good as they protect the kingdom or village at all cost.

However, Princesses don’t have to be good, they could be evil because of what probably happened in the past or whatever storyline that the author chooses.

Princesses in anime could be a child or even an adult, just like in real life.

Here are at least 19 Princesses anime that you should look into:

1. Princess Sakura (Tsubasa Chronicles)

Sakura loses the memories of Syaoran and Syaoran won’t tell her about their previous relationship together.

With their adventure in Tsubasa Chronicles, Sakura falls in love with Syaoran.

This anime was airing when I was in high school. I really liked the music and the graphics of the anime.

If you have the time, check out Tsubasa Chronicles as it has a good storyline and the series isn’t too long to watch.

2. Usagi Tsukino – Princess Serenity (Sailor Moon)

Princess Serenity is the past self of Usagi Tsukino, Serenity’s spirit was reincarnated to the modern era: Usagi Tsukino.

Usagi Tsukino transforms into Sailor Moon and later on, Sailor Moon even transforms into Princess Serenity.

Sailor Moon is an anime for young girl teens and I can understand why.

3. San (Princess Monoke)

Princess Monoke’s real name is San as she is raised by wolves and is the princess of the wolf gods.

This movie is from Studio Ghibli and it was released in 1997 as it was one of the highest films during that year.

The movie is a good storyline and it isn’t too long to watch, you don’t have to be an anime fan to watch this.

I wouldn’t really recommend young kids to watch this movie cause this movie has battles, blood, and fights so I think this is better suited for mature kids.

4. Anthy (Revolutionary Girl Utena)

I saw this anime by chance back in high school.

Utena wants to become a prince one day and as she goes to the academy, Utena duels for her friend. Anthy is the rose bride who is like a princess and who Utena fights for.

Before anyone gets into this anime, Revolutionary Girl Utena is a lesbian theme, hence the picture.

This is a rare anime that I like that has a lesbian theme.

5. Tooru Kouno (Princess Princess)

Princess Princess is a BL anime where boys cross-dress as girls to help the moral of the all-boys academy.

It’s about a first year named Tooru who joins the all-boys academy and becomes the third princess after bumping into a girl.

The anime is short and Princess Princess was once a popular anime before.

6. Mei Chang (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Princess Mei is from the anime Fullmetal Alchemist.

Fullmetal Alchemist is a popular anime and it isn’t a long series to watch if you have the time.

Mei appears at the beginning of the anime looking for the alchemist as Mei wants to help the poor. Mei is like a side character but she does have a story.

7. Lucia Nanami (Mermaid Melody)

Lucia is the keeper of the pink pearl and the mermaid princess of the North Pacific Ocean.

She saves a boy named Kaito and years later, she tries to find him as she falls in love.

It’s a cute anime.

There’s at least two seasons of the series and both seasons are quite long.

8. Sheeta (Laputa: Castle in the Sky)

Princess Sheeta is the heir to Laputa, she is saved by a boy named Pazu as they search for Laputa.

Castle in the Sky is an anime movie and it is the first movie made from Studio Ghibli.

If you like the movies from Studio Ghibli, you should try watching Castle in the Sky. The movie was released in 1986 and it has a good plotline even though the animation style is obviously older.

9. Hisui E. Fiore (Fairy Tail)

Princess Fiore is from the popular anime: Fairy Tail, she is able to use magic.

Fairy Tail has almost 400+ episodes with two films and a couple of OVA’s.

I first heard about Fairy Tail when it started airing during the Naruto Shippuden anime.

10. Stephanie Dola (No Game No Life)

Stephanie is the princess of Elkia and the granddaughter of the king, she deals with Ekia’s economics and politics when Sora and Shiro are crowned.

The anime isn’t too long to watch and it could possibly be done within a week’s time as it only has twelve episodes.

There won’t be a season two if you were hoping for another season of the anime, which disappoints a lot of fans.

11. Hime (Princess Resurrection)

Princess Resurrection isn’t for kids as it has dark themes like horror and dark comedy. it’s about like vampires, wolves, etc.

Hime is the member of the Royal Princess and she doesn’t like to be called by her real name.

She uses a chainsaw during battle, she even knows that Hiro has romantic feelings for her as he is one of the main characters.

12. Asseylum Vers Allusia (Aldnoah Zero)

Princess Asseylum is good at hand to hand combat, and she’s the empress of Vers Empire.

She prioritizes the safety of others, and realizes that some people were using her to start a war on Earth.

If you like machines, fights, battles, etc, I think this may be an ideal anime for you. This anime has less than thirty episodes.

13. The Tale of the Princess Kaguya

I think this movie should be one to watch for anime fans as it tells the story about Kaguya.

The animation looks like the style of drawings if you see the image, which is unique.

It’s been almost a decade since the movie has come out.

14. Pacifica Casull (Scrapped Princess)

Pacifica becomes cursed to destroy the world at the age of sixteen.

I first knew about Scrapped Princess in high school.

Scrapped Princess takes place in the olden days where there’s also magic involved. And even mecha and other elements.

15. Kaguya (Inuyasha: The Castle Beyond The Looking Glass)

Kaguya was able to return back to life after being sealed in the mirror.

She is an evil Princess and she needed five items to be able to destroy the world.

Kaguya tries to make Inuyasha a full fledged demon and to seal him away, however with a kiss from Kagome, Inuyasha was able to stop the transformation.

The Castle Beyond The Looking Glass isn’t one of my favorite movies of Inuyasha, but it is a good movie to watch and the first time we actually see Kagome and Inuyasha kiss.

The animation is good and it is a bit different from the anime series of Inuyasha if you watch it.

16. Princess Kaguya Otsutsuki (Naruto Shippuden)

Princess Kaguya Otsutsuki is an evil princess in the anime of Naruto.

Her storyline in Naruto Shippuden is quite long as she merges with the God Tree and becomes Ten-Tails as she attacks Konoha Village.

She mostly fought against Naruto and Sasuke but that was because both of them resemble her two sons.

Naruto Shippuden is a long anime and you have to watch the original Naruto beforehand to be able to understand the whole thing.

17. Princess Lastelle (Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind)

Princess Lastelle tries to save the valley as she pleads with Nausicaa to destroy the cargo but dies in the end.

Before her death, she gave the control stone to Nausicaa.

The movie is an old movie and was released in 1984, just like any old movies, the graphic and animation will be different than the one that you’re used to now.

The movie is one of the “greatest movies ever made” and I think any anime fan or even if you aren’t an anime fan should watch this.

18. Princess Charlotte (Princess Principal)

Ange and Princess switch places one day so that they could experience the other’s life.

Princess Charlotte is the princess of Albion Kingdom.

The anime takes place in London and is during the early 20th century. This anime contains violence.

The series is short with a total of twelve episodes, there was going to be a film series in 2020, but due to the pandemic, it has been postponed to next year and it is titled: Princess Principal Crown Handler.

If you like mystery and war, I think this may be an anime for you.

In conclusion, there are a lot of anime out there that have a princess within the series and that you should check it out yourself.

The princesses in anime aren’t like in Disney Fairy tale’s where they live happily ever after, not every one of them anyway.

It’s usually a different concept in anime.
