The best female anime villains of all time?
When you think about it, while anime does have many good female villains, there aren’t as many as there could be.
Time will fix that though.
Now let’s make a list.
Here’s the best female anime villains of all time.
Best Female Anime Villains:
1. Medusa Gorgon (Soul Eater)
Medusa Gorgon in my eyes is the ultimate female anime villain. Cold, wicked, committed to her evils, emotionless, lacking in compassion, and shining when it comes to her sadism.
I don’t even think it’s a case of psychopathy, it’s just who she is and she doesn’t regret anything. Even in the face of death, she still has the smile of someone who doesn’t give a F.
This is why she’s a well written villain in the truest sense, with her own fixed morality and perspectives.
2. Flare (Redo Of Healer)
Flare, or Freya, is one of the most evil anime characters of all time, and one of the most savage female characters ever written.
She is the ultimate snake. A woman who has a sweet smile in public, but is absolutely vile, manipulative, sadistic, and as cold as it gets.
She is responsible for raping, drugging, abusing, enslaving, and traumatizing not just the MC, but many innocent characters in the franchise like Demi-Humans.
Typical of these people, she begs for forgiveness when she’s defenceless.
3. Capella Emerada Lugunica (Re:Zero)
Capella Lugunica, or “the witch of lust” shows us what an absolute savage she is in the third season of ReZero.
Like all witches in the franchise, some who are villains, she is unhinged, unbothered, and dedicated to causing suffering wherever she walks and to whoever she touches aside from her own members in the witches cult.
4. Myne (The Rising Of The Shield Hero)
Myne is a villain who got the sweetest amount of karma an anime character could ever receive (or a person).
She falsely accused the MC of rape and convinced everyone to hate him and judge him wrongly. But that savagery backfires down the line in the first season alone though it does take time.
Myne is a villain but not the smartest. Her privilege and nasty attitude are why she gained relevance.
5. Lady Debonair (Magic Knight Rayearth)
Debonair shows up in the 2nd season of Magic Knight Rayearth. She is one of the more powerful villains of the series, and of all time when considering female anime villains overall.
Her voice, her laugh, her energy, her demeanour, and the absolute menace that she was makes her worthy of this list.
6. Freya (Danmachi)
Freya became a villain in Danmachi simply because she was too greedy, in love, entitled, and was abusing her power as a goddess.
She made Bell Cranel’s life unnecessarily hard, painful, and traumatizing, by forcing everyone he loves to forget about him with a form of memory wipe.
She isolated him to try to use reverse psychology, pushing him to depend only on her, ultimately getting what she wants and who she wants in the process.
Plus like a good villain, she got all her subordinates involved who did as they were told without question.
7. Android 18 (DBZ)
Android 18’s villain role will always be legendary in DBZ. Whether we’re talking about her villain role in the timeline of Future Trunks, or whether we’re talking about her role as the CELL saga began.
She famously punished Vegeta in the main timeline, humbling him in the process and damaging his ego almost beyond repair.
8. Kuriba Ryouko (Railgun)
Kuriba Ryouko, also known as Doppelganger is the android mutant from the third season of Railgun. She’s one of the strongest female characters on this list (or any list for that matter).
She is a creation with a human twin, and she struggles with her identity because of this since she also has human elements.
This is initially how she goes off the rail (partially) in search not just for her creator, but for answers she struggles to answer.
She’s a villain with a purpose but one who was created and burdened as a result.
9. Kagura (Inuyasha)
Kagura is a likeable villain from the Inuyasha series and one who is seen throughout the entire series.
She is the reincarnation of Naraku, and despite this, she isn’t given as much information about Naraku’s plans compared to certain other characters. Yet she is loyal.
As a villain, Kagura is evil without a question, but she comes across as someone who is rational, thinks a lot, and doesn’t do things based purely on emotion.
10. Norn (Redo Of Healer)
Norn is the younger sister of Freya, and yet she is the more dangerous one of the two. More cunning, smarter, much more intelligent, and easily more evil if that’s even possible.
Norn is sadistic and dangerous enough that the main character avoids her for most of the series until the time is right.
11. Selene (Fairy Tail)
Selene from Fairy Tail 100 year quest is the moon dragon god. She appears to be more pleasant than other female villains in Fairy Tail, but that myth is dispelled when you see her dark side and her shameless savagery to get what she wants.
Despite her villain role, she does have some morals (like when she sought revenge for her son’s death) and is likeable in a similar way to Esdeath as a villain.
12. Mugino (Railgun)
Mugino from Railgun is definitely one of the strongest female anime villains and one who
doesn’t shy away from her “villain” role in the slightest. She’s the leader of “ITEM”.
She is unbothered, unhinged, and genuine in her beliefs and motives. She doesn’t shy away or suddenly “change” because of a few positive words.
She knows the life she chose and is happy with it. And yes, she is an absolute b*tch depending on the person and their loyalty.
13. Toga Himiko (My Hero Academia)
Toga Himiko might be one of the best-written female villains in a good while. She developed nicely in the My Hero Academia series ever since she makes an appearance.
She, like “the League of villains” characters, was done wrong in their childhood, which eventually warps their views in some way and leads them down a dark path.
Often times their trauma runs too deep for them to see things any other way since no one was able to break through to them.
Toga is one of the female villains who despite her lifestyle, she does have some “good” deep down inside that’s locked away and manages to show itself later into the franchise.
14. Esdeath (Akame Ga Kill)
Esdeath might be one of the most loved, beautiful anime women of all time, never mind villains in general.
Speaking of which, she is a general for the army in Akame Ga Kill created to capture or kill nightraid. The latter is a group of assassins who are deemed “villains” when in actual fact, they’re the heroes and the main characters of the story.
Esdeath isn’t interested in love until she has “love at first sight” and prefers a man she can dominate given she is an extremely powerful fighter who destroyed and enslaved an army of 100 of thousands in what seemed like minutes.
“The strong survive” is her motto that she was forced to experience growing up, shaping her views, and eventually leading to her psychotic blood lust for war and battle.

15. Turbo granny (Dandadan)
Turbo Granny might not be the most powerful female anime character, or villain for that matter, but her overall role as a villain is more than just interesting in the Dandadan series.
That being said, her power isn’t to be underestimated which is proven by her attitude (which is justified to be fair, despite her “arrogance”).
16. Ragyo (Kill La Kill)
Ragyo is the mother of Satsuki Kiryuin and is the main boss at Hannouji Academy. She runs things from behind the scenes and only shows her face when it’s relevant.
Plot twists aside, Ragyo is easily one of the best female anime villains because of her personality, character, role, traits, involvement in the plot, and a key reason why the writing of Kill La Kill is so on point.
17. Elsa Granhiert (Re:Zero)
Elsa Granhiert shows up very early in the ReZero franchise. Around episode 1 at the very end, but her face is revealed in the next 2 episodes or so as Subaru searches for Emilia.
From that moment forward she was an absolute savage and a terrifying villain with a beautiful but wicked smile to go with her overall demeanour and obvious confidence.
She wreaked havoc on the plot, forcing Subaru to adapt after so many painful deaths.
18. Dimaria Yesta (Fairy Tail)
Dimaria Yesta, when she was first introduced, was one of the best villains to grace the screen of Fairy Tail.
She was:
- Savage.
- Stunning.
- Daring.
- Powerful.
- Confident.
And ultimately one of the more violent characters from the Spriggan 12.
PLOT was the main reason she was X’d out of the anime series (especially the convenience of Ultear “showing up” in her “time” dimension, weakening her power).
If not for the story and how it had to play out, and if the anime was more daring, Dimaria could have caused a lot of deaths in FT, thickening the seriousness of the anime’s overall tone.
19. Bel Peol (Shakugan No Shana)
Bell Peol, the one eyed tyrant who always remains calm and calculated no matter the situation. She is one of the main villains of the franchise, and is also part of the group Bal Masque, one of the most powerful denizens of the series (demons).
She might not be hasty to fight, but when she does, there aren’t too many who can overwhelm her and as a villain, she’s one of the smartest female anime villains of all time.
