Anime is a medium with variety like an all you can eat buffet that serves food from different countries. You can always find something that tickles your fancy.

That also applies to anime characters, their ages, and more. With that said, one element people misunderstand is the focus on adult characters from the ages of 25 onwards.

Especially 30+.

2. Kokoro Amatsu (Re:Life)

Kokoro Amatsu is the teacher in the ReLife series. It’s a slice of life anime about Kaizaki Arata, a 27 year old NEET who’s struggling in life.

He’s given a set of pills that allows you to redo your life 10 years prior, so he relives his life in college but with the experience and knowledge of an adult.

Kokoro Komatsu is Kaizaki’s teacher, and she’s a woman who cares for her students and truly wants the best for them.

She’s in her mid 20’s herself and is one of the most likable characters in ReLife.

3. Yuzuki Hanyu (World’s End Harem)

Yuzuki Hanyu is the teacher from World’s End Harem, an Ecchi/Harem series with toxic feminist vibes to a degree.

The story is Men have been wiped out, with only a few remaining who are alive. The MK virus (man killer) is responsible for the pandemic and the overwhelming interest in Men from women who wanna mate with them to repopulate society.

Yuzuki becomes the lover of Shota or “Doi-Kun” as he’s called with white hair and who also wears glasses.

Hanyu is a kind, gentle, and thoughtful person who’s selfless and loving to the point that Shota falls in love with her.

4. Tsukuyomi Komoe (A Certain Magical Index)

Komoe looks like a child, but she’s older than you think. And she’s not one of those typical “Loli” type characters who are demons or whatever and are younger looking than they actually are.

She chain smokes, is a responsible adult, and is a teacher (see the trend?) in the Index franchise.

She’s an attentive person who listens and is good at explaining complex subjects and making them simple for others to take in. And is definitely smarter than her appearance would have you believe.

5. Kinue Hayase (Masamune Kun No Revenge)

Kinue Hayase, just like Komoe from Index, is a mature adult woman who’s smaller than you’d expect her to be.

She’s the mother of the main character: Masamune Makabe, and is actually in her early 40’s as far as age goes.

Probably a reflection of her appearance, Kinue isn’t an angry type of person but is more gentle and kind. And if angry, she appears to be more innocent than lets say a taller woman might appear.

6. Umiko Ahagon (New Game!)

Umiko is the programming leader in the New Game series. Everything that goes down with programming, reporting bugs, and things of that nature is handled by Umiko.

She doesn’t take kindly to disrespect, callous behavior, lazy people or those who slack off during work hours. She’s a bit of a workaholic herself.

Even though she comes off as rough around the edges, Umiko is feminine and ultimately just wants the best out of other people. She just has a no nonsense approach.

She’s also into FPS games and loves military style gifts and guns.

7. Megumi Sakura (Gakkou Gurashi)

Megumi Sakura is the wait for it…. The teacher in the Gakkou Gurashi series. She has purple hair and is quite short.

She’s clumsy, a klutz, and is overly kind to a fault, but that’s what makes her such a likable character and person. It’s why her students love her.

It’s already implied in episode 1 but Megumi has already died but her memories live on through Yuki Takeya, the main character.

8. Masane Amaha (Witchblade)

Masane Amaha is the main protagonist of the Witchblade series. She’s the mother of Rihoko and the one who wields the mysterious weapon witchblade.

Feisty, proportioned, attractive, but also a woman with a sense of purpose, duty, and responsibility. She’ll do anything for her child and she proves it with her actions.

Even if you take into account younger characters in anime, Masane is definitely one of the best and not so know female characters in the industry… Especially for her age range.

9. Margery Daw (Shakugan No Shana)

Margery Daw is a woman in her 30’s. She’s a powerful flame haze with a strong denizen (demon) she uses to summon spells, which she excels in.

Lush, gorgeous, well dressed but sometimes bad mouthed, this describes Margery Daw in a nutshell. She’s insecure and her outward appearance masks those insecurities.

She’s also a woman who’s been through hell and back, and even more, literally.

10. Teresa Of The Faint Smile (Claymore)

Teresa’s age is never given but it’s obvious she’s a woman who’s an adult, given the anime’s timeline of her, Teresa’s appearance, and other hints.

She’s known as the most powerful Claymore in existence. She’s #1. The “faint smile” part of her name comes from the subtle smile she has right before slaughtering demons or anyone who’s an enemy.

Teresa is also one of the most important characters of the series, and is the main inspiration behind Clare, the MC following in her footsteps.

11. Najenda (Akame Ga Kill)

Najenda is the leader of Nightraid, an assassination group designed to destroy the capital and bring about a revolution.

Each member is powerful, fast, dangerous, and highly skilled as assassins… To the point of having bounties on their head.

Najenda being the leader is a little more on the serious side, and is smart, capable, strategic, and can’t tell a joke to save her life.

She holds a lot of relevance throughout the entire series.

12. Koko Hekmatyar (Jormungand)

Koko Hekmatyar is the leader of an arms dealing group, and she’s always surrounded by bodyguards no matter where she travels in the world.

She’s a millionaire and can afford to after all. And unlike some, she was born into the arms dealing trade so it wasn’t a matter of choice.

For someone in the business of killing when necessary, and selling weapons which can potentially start wars, she’s easy going, level headed, fun, eccentric, and a jolly leader.

She has a more serious, dark side to her personality and has enemies all over the world since she’s so successful.

13. Revy Rebecca (Black Lagoon)

Revy Rebecca is a woman in her 20’s and one who’s been through the grimiest, most savage circumstances a girl could go through.

Her upbringing molded her into a more masculine woman who will kill first, and ask questions later. And won’t think much of it after the fact because of the darkness she carries in her soul.

Revy is a universally loved female character in the anime community, and a hottie in her own right who makes Black Lagoon better than it could have been without her involvement.

14. Balsa Yonsa (Guardian Of The Sacred Spirit)

Balsa Yonsa is a female bodyguard in her 30’s. She’s a gorgeous warrior and a fighter from an ethnic background.

From young she’s trained in the art of spear fighting, that’s why she’s so skilled with a staff, spear, or similar types of weapons.

Balsa is a loving and forgiving person. A motherly figure to Chakuro, the anime’s prince who’s on the run from people trying to kill him.

She doesn’t get much recognition as a character these days, but she’s one of the best written female characters in all of anime.

15. Tsunade (Naruto)

Tsunade is an obvious choice from the Naruto series, mainly Shippuden or Boruto. She’s one of the legendary Sennin and a well recognized warrior.

Similar to her name, Tsunade can give off “Tsundere” vibes and is the type of person to mask their insecurities through their aggression, attitude, or tough h exterior.

When you’ve been through a lot like Tsunade it tends to do that to you if you haven’t had time to heal.

16. Celica Arfonia (Rokudenashi)

Celica Arfonia is the mentor of Glenn Radars, the MC of this anime. She’s the one who forced him to become a teacher in the Alzano imperial magic academy.

Being a literal witch Celica is the most powerful mage in the continent. No one can mess with her or has the balls to even try.

She like so tease people but generally holds herself to a high standard for others to model and be inspired by. She has an elegance to her character.

17. Wilhelmina Carmel (Shakugan No Shana)

Wilhelmina Carmel is the supposed maid in Shakugan No Shana. She always walks around in a maids uniform and rarely changes.

Having a stoic personality allows her to mask and hide her feelings or true intentions from those around her, except a handful of people who are closest.

This makes Wilhelmina seem colder than she is, but she does have some personality and “life” under the wall she puts up.

18. Balalaika (Black Lagoon)

Balalaika is an older character and considered an OG in the Black Lagoon series. She’s not one to be f*cked with.

Being Russian she has the cliche “serious” attitude down to a T, and she’s not one to smile a lot either. That can make others weary of her or cautious.

Being an important character in the anime, she has a lot of clout and influence in the underworld, and has a militant background.

19. Esdeath (Akame Ga Kill)

Esdeath is the leader of the Jaegers in Akame Ga Kill, and she’s a sadistic blood thirsty savage who lusts for war and violence.

Being one of the groups built to destroy the opposition, she’s an important piece on the corrupt governments chess board.

Esdeath grew up in harsh environments, having to eat what she killed, giving her the belief that only the strongest survive. And this carries over into her life as a high ranking general.

She’s gorgeous and she knows it. She has no problem using it to her advantage and is a lot more powerful than most realize.

20. Malty S Melromarc (The Rising Of The Shield Hero)

Malty, also known as “bitch” by the end of the anime season 1 is a villain in the anime series. She’s the main antagonist.

She’s the one who befriends Naofumi, the MC, and then for her own agenda decides to falsely accuse him of r*pe, causing the whole world to hate and treat him as an outcast.

Also known as “Myne” she’s become one of the most hated anime characters in history, regardless of gender.

21. Nana Komatsu (NANA)

Nana Komatsu is one half of the main female characters in this slice of life/romance and Josei series. She’s a klutz, makes a lot of mistakes, and can be considered an airhead.

She’s the type of person who wears her feelings out in the open and can be impulsive with her decisions in life, leading to bad outcomes.

One thing she has going for her is her warm personality and friendly attitude. She’s the reason people around her feel so comfortable, even if irritated by her complaining at times.

22. Riza Hawkeye (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Riza Hawkeye is a relevant female character from Fullmetal Alchemist, and is the right hand woman of Roy Mustang who’s a flame alchemist.

Being a strong character who’s part of the military, Riza plays a relevant role in the FMA series and is one of the anime’s most respected characters.

Her relationship with Roy Mustang is a major part of this, and stylistically she’s unique and different.
