Which anime from studio CLAMP are the best?
Studio CLAMP isn’t actually what they are. They’re actually an all-female group of mangaka who got together and made some GREAT anime and manga.
Some of which have become big, known, or are stamped in history.
Studio clamp facts:
- Clamp is an all-female Japanese mangaka group formed in the mid-1980s.
- The group initially had eleven members but later reduced to seven when they started creating original work in 1987.
- ️ Clamp made their debut with RG Veda in 1989.
- ️ By 1993, three more members left, leaving the four current members.
- ✍️ In 2006, the members decided to change their names, with Ohkawa later reverting from Ageha Ohkawa to Nanase Ohkawa.
- Clamp has achieved significant success, with nearly 100 million Clamp tankōbon copies sold worldwide as of October 2007.

Here’s a list of shows CLAMP were responsible for.
studio clamp anime:
1. Code Geass
Code Geass is an anime series rated as one of the TOP shows of all time, like Death Note and others from the 2000s era.
It’s easily one of my top 5 and top 10 anime.
Lelouch Lamperoiuge is a smart teenager who’s good at chess but lacks power. And he gains that power the moment his life almost comes to an end.
After gaining the power of Geass, he’s able to control anyone he comes into eye contact with. And he does exactly that to get his revenge on certain people.
This includes breaking the trust of his comrades, backstabbing them, killing people off, forming his own army under his codename “ZERO”, and more conflicting things that makes Lelouch a character you love, hate, or both.
He does this all in the name of his sister Nunally, but it isn’t as simple as that.
2. Chobits
Back when this anime first aired in the 2000s the idea that “robot” girls could be a thing was a dream, a fantasy, and part of our imagination.
These days in 2023 when you have ChatGPT evolving at a rapid rate, Tesla, and other technological developments, plus robots in parts of Japan serving food, that reality isn’t too far away in a sense.
Chobits did things early with the robot girlfriend, the female androids (ignoring DBZ), and other features in a romantic setting.
CLAMP brought something unique and different to the table when they came together to make this a reality.
3. Magic Knight Rayearth
Magic Knight Rayearth is one of my favourite anime shows from this list. It’s one of the most original anime shows that are actually isekai, focusing on characters who come from Tokyo and end up in another world.
They become magic knights and are selfishly asked to fight for the world of Cephiro, but they go along with it anyway and the story morphs into something more impactful with depth, purpose, and an emotional connection.
The anime has Hikaru Shidou, the main red-headed fiery protagonist, Fuu, who’s more gentle, and Umi, the “big sister” of the group.
4. Cardcaptor Sakura
Sakura Kinomoto is the anime’s main female character and the eventual magical girl of the series. The “magic” is related to special types of cards.
Being an anime released in the 1990s, this is one of the oldest and most successful magical girl projects of all time. With new-ish works still being made in the modern day (2010s and beyond).
Studio CLAMP hit the ball out of the park with this franchise as it’s now a legitimate and undeniable part of anime and Japanese history.
Even more so if you focus on the magical girl genre of anime.
5. Blood C
Blood C is a different version of the original Blood+ anime that featured Saya, her sister Diva, the chiropterans (monsters), and other characters.
The main character in this series has glasses and engages in violence that goes beyond Blood+’s original work.
This somewhat brings the quality of the series down when compared, but either way, it still is, as far as CLAMP goes, one of their best efforts. Even if on the lower end of the measuring stick.
6. Tsubasa Chronicle
This is still considered one of the best anime from CLAMP.
Similar to the journey of Inuyasha and Kagome where they search for the Jewel shards, in Tsubasa Chronicles, Tsubasa searches for the feathers of one of his friends.
The main exception is he searches for these feathers from different and multiple dimensions.
These feathers are attached to his memories.
Makona, the mascot type of character is the same character featured in Magic Kight Rayearth, where it first appeared.
7. xxxHolic
xxxHolic has an animation style that’s different to almost every anime out there. The art style may or may not be something you can get used to.
I’m one of those people. The anime itself is unique and a sort of “hidden gem” for those who support, love, and enjoy an underground anime like xxxHolic.
It’s one of the best (regarded as) from studio CLAMP.
