The 2010s and beyond have increased the anime genre’s global appeal. It was a somewhat limited type of entertainment in earlier decades.

It has advanced to the point that every primary streaming service, including Hulu, is acquiring licensing to numerous anime shows to supplement their core collections.

Hulu offers various anime content, including movies and serialized T.V. anime.

1.) GURREN LAGANN (2007)

Psycho-Pass is a unique anime story that offers some of the most compelling sci-fi tales available today. In the Production I.G. animated film Psycho-Pass, the Japanese government imposes a Minority Report-style dictatorship over its populace in a technologically dystopian society.

The government tracks brain biometrics to determine a person’s predisposition for criminality in an authoritarian effort to eradicate all crime.

If they don’t pass this Psycho-Pass, the government won’t hesitate to use immediate lethal action against them. The Japanese government’s cynical enforcers are the main focus of the series up until a rookie inspector with high aspirations for justice starts to stir things up.

Psycho-Pass has received plaudits for drawing inspiration from Ridley Scott’s cyberpunk classic Blade Runner and the Steven Spielberg movie.


3.) DRAGON BALL (1986)

The first series of Dragon Ball, created by Akira Toriyama, doesn’t get enough credit for the franchise’s subsequent explosion into a global multimedia powerhouse.

Dragon Ball Z was undoubtedly a new high point, but the original Dragon Ball is still a classic shounen anime.

Son Goku begins this franchise launch pad as a fish out of water who doesn’t recognize his strength while encountering a diverse cast of heroes and villains along the road.

Dragon Ball includes well-known antagonists like the Red Ribbon Army and King Piccolo’s adversarial past before becoming a hero.


4.) KILL LA KILL (2013)

Kill la Kill, created by the same studio that made Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, is still one of Trigger’s most recognizable works. The chic character designs, lively colour scheme, and exciting action-focused animation are instantly recognised.

A rebellious schoolgirl’s quest to identify her father’s killer and exact revenge are the central themes of Kill la Kill, putting all those elements on show.

She runs afoul of Satsuki Kiryuin, the Honnouji Academy student council president and Kiryuin’s intimidating, fashion-empire-heading mother. So it makes sense that a lot of the action centers around the individuals’ apparent sentience-infused clothing, which has given them abilities.


5.) BLEACH (2004)

After the initial series’ popularity waned, Bleach—one of the anime and manga series considered Weekly Shounen Jump’s “Big Three” alongside Naruto and One Piece—is set to make a triumphant comeback. Unfortunately, because of this, the anime adaptation could never complete the original work’s plot.

However, with the release of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, this will no longer be the case.

The build-up to the Quincy Blood War is the main subject of this new season/successor series, which continues where the first one left off.

As he is dispatched on a top-secret diplomatic mission abroad, the elite spy, only known by the codename Agent Twilight introduces the first episode of the series.

His goal is to prevent a conflict between two strong countries, but for surprising reasons, his undercover operation turns out to be the hardest yet. Twilight adopts the alias Loid with Anya and Yor to form the Forger family.

Each family member has information about their duties and skills that they want to keep a secret from the others.

8.) CHAINSAW MAN (2022)

Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man, one of the best shounen manga to be published recently, is now getting an anime adaptation.

Chainsaw Man is an animated film produced by the incredibly talented animation studio MAPPA, known for such films as Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan: The Final Season.

It tells the tale of the tragically orphaned young man Denji and how his life changes because of the supernatural creatures that inhabit this world.

Denji’s best buddy and the canine devil, Pochita, saves his life when the local Yakuza eventually turns against him, forcing him to do the dirty job of the organization as compensation for his father’s passing.

Denji now functions as the Chainsaw Devil and joins the Japanese government’s devil-hunting organization.


9.) MOB PSYCHO 100 (2016)

Mob Psycho 100 is the latest work by author ONE, who is well known for the critically acclaimed superhero and shounen spoof One-Punch Man. The story of the mild-mannered Shigeo Kageyama, better known as Mob, is followed in Mob Psycho 100.

It’s an adaptation of the novel by seasoned studio Bones into an anime format that has received equal praise for its qualities in its first two seasons.

Mob is an esper with extraordinary psychic abilities who prefers to keep them to himself to lead an everyday life. However, Mob runs into several issues that push his control and patience to severe tests, along with his self-described psychic friend and mentor, Reigen.


10.) FATE/ ZERO (2011)

Fate/Zero is an action and fantasy series that is a spin-off of the well-known light book series by Gen Urobuchi that takes place before the events of Fate/Stay Night.

The Fourth Holy Grail War is a covert competition in which seven Masters call upon the legendary souls of victors throughout history. The anime depicts the events of this battle.

The Holy Grail, a magical chalice that grants the winner’s wishes, is the prize in this bloody fight royale between these warriors. The main character of Fate/Zero, deadly assassin Kiritsugu Emiya, fights for the Einzberns, his wife’s family, in the Fourth Holy Grail War.

The anime adaptation of Kei Sanbe’s novel Erased by A-1 Pictures delivers a gripping mystery tale in a contemporary setting that is both grounded and mystical.

Satoru Fujinuma is a young man in his 20s who works at a pizzeria while he tries to launch a career as a manga artist. However, he possesses an exceptional talent called Revival that enables him to go back in time just before a catastrophe occurs, allowing him to stop it.

After an unknown assailant brutally murders Satoru’s mother, Satoru returns to his early years to try to save her life there.


12.) HUNTER X HUNTER (2011)

Based on the renowned shounen manga Hunter x Hunter by author Yoshihiro Togashi, animation company Madhouse created a new and enhanced T.V. series.

Hunter x Hunter is a vast, vibrant, modern fantasy with many world-building and intriguing characters from the same creator who gave fans Yu Yu Hakusho.

The young Gon Freecs plans to follow in the footsteps of his father, who abandoned him by becoming a world-class hunter specializing in locating uncommon objects, creatures, or locations.

Gon teams up with his friends and allies Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio on a world-trotting journey full of supernatural dangers and bright new realms after passing the test to obtain his license.


13.) LUPIN III: THE FIRST (2019)

Since the original manga by Monkey Punch was published in the 1960s, Lupin the Third has appeared in a variety of media, making him one of the recognizable names in the anime business.

The 2019 Lupin III: The First adaptation of the colorful heist adventures of the titular Arsène Lupin III follows Lupin and his crew of professional thieves.

They travel to France and Brazil in search of a treasure that even his legendary grandfather couldn’t find.

The anime adaptations have been exceptionally well received in the film format. Anyone who can crack the mechanical diary’s code contained in the Bresson Diary can locate the treasure, and a Nazi treasure-hunting team is also after them.


14.) HELLSING (2006)

The second anime adaptation of the cult favourite dark fantasy horror manga by Kouta Hirano is the ten-episode Hellsing Ultimate series.

While the previous anime series diverged into a unique narrative that was only loosely based on the source material, Ultimate stays more faithful to the original story.

The Hellsing Organization has been Britain’s finest line of defense against the undead in a world where they regularly threaten the living. Alucard, the organization’s most potent weapon, is left to Sir Integra Hellsing, the group’s head.

An uncommon type of undead warrior who supports the living is the vampire. A brutal battle between the squad and rival monster-hunting groups and the undead eventually breaks out.

15.) CLAYMORE (2007)

Claymore, a dark fantasy series by Norihiro Yagi, was turned into a 26-episode anime series by the animation studio Madhouse.

The story is set in a fantastical Middle Ages when Yoma, demonic animals, terrorize the last of the human race. Due to these creatures’ ravenous appetites for human flesh, Claymores—human-Yoma hybrids explicitly made to eliminate this threat—arose.

Raki’s life is saved when the Claymore named Clare appears and dispatches the monsters in his town. Raki, however, is quickly expelled from the community and decides to accompany Clare on her journey to purge the Earth of any Yoma she encounters.

Shinichi Izumi, a high school student, is forced into the middle of an alien invasion in Parasyte: The Maxim. The parasites, known as Parasytes, generally wholly take over the brains of their hosts.

Instead of embedding in Shinichi’s brain, the parasite does so in his arm. Shinichi allies with his invader as they battle other Parasytes in the city after the Parasyte adopts its own identity and adopts the name Migi.

The mercenaries Dutch, Revy, and Benny all take to Rokuro immediately, which is good news for him.

In the anime adaptation of the Danganronpa video games, young Makoto Naegi believed his luck had changed. Makoto learns Hope’s Peak Academy is a sham after being accepted there.

A cruel teacher who only appears to them through his radio-controlled bear, Monobear, has kidnapped him and 14 other students.

The sole option the headmaster gives the students for leaving the school is to murder one of their classmates and escape punishment at the subsequent trial.

Unfortunately for Makoto, several of his classmates are too eager to commit murder.
