23+ Anime Shows To Watch If You’re Feeling Happy And Content

Anime shows can make you feel:

  • Happy.
  • Relaxed.
  • At peace.
  • Content.

And more importantly, anime can reinforce these feelings if you’re already there on the inside with your self esteem and self image.

In this post we’ll focus on anime from genres like:

  • Slice Of Life.
  • Comedy.
  • School.
  • Romance.
  • Fantasy.
  • Isekai.

And more specifically, anime that promote feelings of peace, serenity, relaxation, calm, and low stress.

Here’s a list.

1. Tonikaku KAWAII

Tonikaku KAWAII s2

Tonikaku KAWAII is one of the most wholesome anime shows that have been made in the industry.

The main character, male, is almost Isekai’d and saved by a woman who mysteriously survives herself. That woman then shows up at his doorstep later and the two essentially get engaged from there (skipping some details).

It’s a very “happy and content” anime to watch if you’re at ease, or want to be at ease.

2. Good Luck Girl

Good Luck Girl parody moments

Good Luck Girl is a comedy/parody anime series. It references many shows as these gag-style anime tend to do.

Ichiko Sakura is the spoiled brat of the series and its protagonist. Apparently she is stealing happiness energy from everyone around her without realizing it due to selfishness.

She has a lot of character development but in between is some of the funniest content you’ll come across from the 2000s era of anime.

3. School Rumble

School Rumble girls boys

School Rumble, made in the 2000s, is an anime that deserves a remake or a new season and is an anime that can make you feel happy and content.

It’s part comedy, part slice of life, and of course, romance as well.

Tenma is the anime’s main female character who is airheaded, simply, absent minded, and a source of comedy.

Kenji Harima falls for Tenma, and in turn, another girl down the line falls for Harima, but the writing of this anime has no element of “cringe”. The story is told well.

It’s also wholesome of course.

4. I’ve Been Killing Slimes For 300 Years

Ive Been Killing Slimes For 300 Years blondies

As the title implies, the main female character who is reborn killed 300 slimes and maxed out her level. Now she lives in the countryside, chilling, and does everything to avoid people who constantly want to fight her.

Mainly because she can win with ease, and she prefers the laid back life without having any notoriety.

But more and more people come into her life, and she even lets them live with her, becoming a sort of family, adding to the anime’s wholesomeness.

5. Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie

Shikimoris Not Just A Cutie visuals

Shikimori is the pink haired female protagonist who is already in a relationship, contrary to what you tend to see in many rom com anime series.

So this anime is wholesome from the start and this is also true for its manga of course.

In some ways, it can dilute the anime’s entertainment value, but if it’s the wholesomeness you want and a simple anime with content vibes, this is the one.

6. Aharen San Is Indecipherable

Aharen San Is Indecipherable too close

Aharen is the female protagonist of the show, with her “partner in crime” who is taller in contrast and both are introverted.

Aharen likes to get up close and personal to talk to people because she doesn’t speak loudly enough. This can be awkward for others who aren’t used to people “invading” their space even if unintentionally.

The anime’s ironic humour, wholesome romance, and comedy are different, more subtle, less dramatic and over the top by comparison to similar anime shows.

It’s a feel good anime no doubt.

7. When Will Ayumu Make His Move?

When Will Ayumu Make His Move couple

Ayumu is the love interest of his senpai, and his “senpai” is the one he is secretly fallen for. But he refuses to confess until he finally beats her at a game of Shogi!

This leads to many moments of wholesomeness, fun, silly antics, comedy, blushing, and all the rest of it. But it doesn’t feel tacky or overdone by comparison to anime that are more full on and exaggerated.

It’s a content and “happy” anime to get into.

8. K-On

k on kawaii girls

K-On by Kyoto Animation is the birth of modern day Moe anime. It kicked the trend into overdrive after its success and release.

Yui Hirasawa, the anime’s airheaded main character is joined by Ritsu Tainaka, Tsumugi Kotobuki, and Mio Akiyama.

They drink tea, eat cakes, relax, and have fun, all while getting through college together as a group.

9. Tanaka Kun Is Always Listless

Tanaka Kun Is Always Listless humour

Tanaka Kun is a lazy, overly laid back main character who values his energy to an extreme. He likes to conserve his battery by not doing anything too strenuous or energy consuming.

His friend Oda is the opposite in the sense he’s energetic, lively, and everyone loves him.

Each character brings a taste of wholesomeness to the anime in their own way, and the anime itself feels like it’s moving at a relaxed pace.

10. Non Non Biyori

Non Non Biyori counttryside life

Non Non Biyori is about kids living their lives in the countryside, simply put. From the ages of 5-7 to 14 years old and upwards.

Renge is the youngest, and is sharp for her age, while Komari Chan, while looking childish, is one of the most mature characters in this slice of life series.

11. Bodacious Space Pirates

Bodacious Space Pirates 2012

Bodacious Space Pirates is about Marika Kato, a “pirate” who is helped by her Tsundere like friend with black hair and glasses.

This isn’t a pirate anime that focuses on violence, deep levels of action, or some darker story. It’s just lighthearted comedy, with some action, but mostly light episodes and an easygoing story as they travel throughout space.

12. Mitsuboshi Colors

Mitsuboshi Colors kids kawaii

Kids believe they can bend the world, fly, and use superpowers if convinced. Mitsuboshi Colors highlights the fact the world is so big in the eyes of children.

The main characters go around the city “to protect the peace” in their own childish, pure, and wholesome way, leading to laughs and feelings of happiness and joy for the viewer.

13. My Bride Is A Mermaid

My Bride Is A Mermaid characters anime

My Bride Is A Mermaid is a 2000’s anime series and one of the original parody anime of that era.

Sun Seto, a mermaid in secret, has her secret exposed when Nagasumi almost drowns in the sea.

They get engaged to keep the peace between Sun’s family (who are Yakuza) and this becomes the source of the anime’s comedy, laughs, and sometimes, serious moments.

14. Azumanga Daioh

Azumanga Daioh slice of life

Azumanga Daioh is the mother of MOE. It was the first Moe of its kind and a slice of life anime with the familiar style we see years later down the line.

The main character Chio is the cutest one of all, followed by Sakaki, the introvert, and others like Kagura and Tomo who are nutjobs, to say the least.

The anime can be weird, but it’s ultimately a calming anime.

15. Tamako Market

Tamako Market mochi

Tamako Market is another Kyoto Animation series and one about the food MOCHI. The daughters and the family cook and bake mochi for the town, and this is the start of the story.

No romance, but plenty of nice episodes between friends, a weird bird that talks, and moment to moment interactions.

16. Flying Witch

Flying Witch boat

Flying Witch is by J.C  Staff. It’s all in the name. A witch goes to the countryside to live with family, and yes, she can fly on her broom.

The anime is rare in that it doesn’t focus too much on the magical aspects, and instead focuses on the more relatable aspects of the characters and the lives they’re living.

It’s bound to bring happiness to whoever watches it.

17. Engaged To The Unidentified

Engaged To The Unidentified cast

Kobeni is essentially forced into an engagement with Hakuya, and she’s not happy about it.

Slowly, the two start talking but only casually, though more is revealed later which makes their “romance” more understandable.

Tropes of the crazy obsessed older sister exist in this anime, among others, but it’s tame and most of all, a pleasant anime to watch overall.

18. Hibiki Euphonium

Hibike Euphonium crew kyoani

Hibike Euphonium is about music and a school of girls who are interested in instruments of all kinds.

By Kyoto Animation, the visuals are stunning and it’s one of the studio’s best anime, not to mention one of the best music based anime shows to watch.

Sad moments, but another anime that feels pleasant to watch and see.

19. The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K

Saiki K psychic

Saiki K is a pink haired introvert who wears green glasses and a weird set of antennas, and nobody seems to question it. That’s because he has immense psychic powers and he shaped the world so others wouldn’t notice it.

He doesn’t wanna bother anyone, but people are always bothering him, even if not in a negative way, and this becomes part of the anime’s comedy in a lot of ways.

Think of it like a clean version of Gintama for the most part.

20. Cells At Work

Cells At Work anime

Cells At Work is shonen done right, especially in a setting where you learn about the human body, cells, the science of it, and most of all, it’s accurate!

The anime is underrated, under appreciated, but has master storytelling on a subject that is usually boring but is made to be more exciting and thrilling.

21. Amagi Brilliant Park

Amagi Brilliant Park party

Amagi Brilliant Park is an anime about fun as much as it is about business and entrepreneurship. A theme park is under threat of shutting down, and Kanie, the anime’s main character, is forcefully recruited to save it.

They come up with ways to drive the business forward and gain sales, but this magical theme park isn’t ordinary.  Neither is the person who owns it.

22. Quintessential Quintuplets

Quintessential Quintuplets kawaii

Quintessential Quintuplets is a wholesome harem series and one that somehow doesn’t feel trashy and mediocre compared to so many harem shows out there.

It feels classy and the storytelling is nicely done, as well as the connections between the male student character (who is teaching quintessential sisters, hired by their father).

It feels nice watching everything unfold, for the most part.

23. Aria The Animation

Aria The Animation girls

Aria The Animation is an extremely underrated anime series today. Released in the 2000s, the planet is called Aqua. It’s based on the city of Venice (Italy).

Aqua, as the name blatantly implies, is filled with water and even boats they use to get around just like Venice.

Undine’s (women) as they call them work for their own individual companies, with the goal of marketing the planet essentially.

Easy-going characters, pleasant episodes, slow but nicely paced stories, and calming interactions makes this anime one of the nicest and most “happy” you’ll ever see.
