With that in mind, let’s now focus on the best anime shows released in 2024.

1. Undead Unluck

Undead Unluck deserves more credit in 2024. It’s one of the few shounen anime to be written so well, and it helps that its art style, content, action scenes, and clever plot writing are so good as well.

Fuuko Izumo tries to commit suicide because she, like many as she starts to learn later, has been gifted with a random power that soon after causes tragedy for others around them.

In her case, if someone touches her skin, a disaster follows (which kills her parents).

After meeting Andy, a guy who can’t die, with Fuuko, an unlucky girl, they eventually work together to survive and the story goes so much deeper from this point forward.

It’s arguably one of the best Shounen in the last 10+ years and has a similar feel to Kill La Kill.

2. Re:Zero Season 3 Part 1

Re:Zero season 3 has arrived and it seems to have ended just as quickly. The next part releases in 2025 but with the content released in 2024, those episodes alone were top tier.

In this season the fight against the archbishops and their minions, as well as the leaders like Regulus (representing the twitch of greed) is finally happening.

Subaru dies much less thanks to his past “lessons” he was forced to endure, which is a noticeable difference compared to other seasons of Re:Zero. As well as Emilia continuing to shine even more and showing fans why she was #1 from the beginning.

3. Unwanted Undead Adventurer

Unwanted Undead Adventurer is an anime where the main character (called Rentt) is killed by a dragon and then is reborn as a skeleton. He trains in his new body in the ruins and eventually starts to learn more about what’s going on and his new powers.

He goes to the only person who will believe him about what happened, and that woman is Lorraine, a beautiful and smart woman who spends her time on research.

These two characters are the most important in the plot, and the introspection of the character feels different to comparable shows that have been done in the same genre.

4. Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Conflict

Bleach has shot back into the limelight ever since the TYBW Arc debuted. And in 2024, it continues with “the conflict” arc that is still airing right now.

Ichigo Kurosaki has gained new powers thanks to his training with Squad Zero, and the heat has turned up because of Yhwach and his insistence on destroying the soul king.

The familiar new battle music that this version of Bleach has played since it debuted is here, and the unfolding story adapted from the manga only keeps getting better and better. Making it a worthy 2024 contender.

5. Rurouni Kenshin 2024

Rurouni Kenshin has done a good job of adapting the original with better animation, graphics, art, and colours, and in 2024 (Shishio Arc) it only gets better.

The action, the fights, everything feels more polished and it’s one of the better NEW remakes that ave been made in the last few years.

Surprisingly few are talking about this anime and the quality it’s dishing out.

6. Kaiju No.8

Kaiju No.8 is another anime with a nice art style in 2024. It feels a bit like Akiba Maid War, Psycho Pass, and similar anime for its dark tones and overall vibe.

The comedy and action can be compared to One Punch Man in some ways.

Hibino Kafka is a regular human and a soldier. But one day a Kaiju enters his body and changes his life forever.

He keeps it secret and only his good friend knows the truth, and when forced into a corner, he exposes the truth (he had no choice) and the drama unfolds.

Quality wise, this anime deserves it for 2024 as it managed to do the same thing but in a different light, which is why it was entertaining.

7. Oshi No Ko Season 2

Oshi No Ko season 2 didn’t disappoint even tough it felt like a slow start. It eventually picked up, became more dramatic, more secrets were revealed, different sides to its characters were on display, and both Aqua and Akane have become more intimate.

The latter was never guaranteed based on past content, making the fact more surprising and the content better as a result.

Kana also shined as a character yet again and even Ruby showed us something new. One of the best of 2024 without question.

8. Dungeon Meshi

Dungeon Meshi is an anime series that combines food, comedy, light action, and a lot of dialogue to make its episodes interesting and different. The dialogue part is a major point similar to Monogatari.

You have Marcille, the blond elf character who makes the anime light up with comedy and her expressions of the craziness around her are relatable to those watching.

The other characters are the “nut jobs” of the show, and their combined chemistry is what makes this anime shine differently to comparable shows.

This anime was destined to shine ever since the manga.

9. Dandadan

Dandadan is the kind of anime you pass off as being overhyped by the looks of it from the outside. But when you try it, you oddly become interested and absorbed in its whacky, crazy content and colourful art.

It’s similar to Kill La Kill, LWA, and many anime that came before it in both art style and content.

The main male character, Okarun, literally has his balls stolen by a powerful spirit “turbo granny”.

Ayase on the other hand develops new powers and both end up working alongside each other and becoming romantically interested out of necessity and loyalty (not the romance part).

It’s a mixture of fun, drama, sports, action, and good laughs with high energy episodes.

10. Mayonaka Punch

One of the few original anime series to be released in 2024 and by original I mean it wasn’t adapted from any source material. The anime is the ONLY source.

This anime is about Masaki, a youtuber who gets kicked out of her group for starting trouble and is now depressed wondering what to do next. She happens to run into a vampire who seeks her out for unrelated reasons, and the two work with each other to start a youtube channel.

That’s the gist of it.

But the anime has more moving parts than just that.

It’s an anime you can watch and be satisfied with after it ends (or not) because it’s original material, so there’s unlikely to be a continuation series.

It’s relatable for anyone today in the world of technology, social media, smartphones, YouTube, influencers, insecurities, and everything in between.

11. KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! 3

Konosuba after airing the backstory to both Megumin and Yunyun in 2023, came out with the 3rd season finally. And it was as good as we all expected it to be.

We see some new highlights other seasons never shown, meaning sides to characters (and so on) that weren’t visible.

Darkness Lalatina shows a different side to her personality never seen with Kazuma, and of course in true comedic fashion, Kazuma rejects it in the most awkward way imaginable.

We also see new characters introduced or Kazuma’s “little sister” so to speak.

It was well worth the anticipation and was a great addition to 2024.

12. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End

This anime was surprisingly good and deserves all the high ratings it got.

The anime starts out with the elf Frieren, who can be described as indifferent, unemotional, seemingly cold, and aloof. Hard to read on the surface.

But she is one of the most empathetic in the series and her empathy feels realistic rather than overdone or exaggerated (as is the case with the usual high energy character types).

The anime is a journey of Frieren discovering and appreciating the smaller things in life, meeting people, some of who are elderly and showing her gratitude to them while she still has the chance given she has an almost infinite life by comparison.

She seeks out all the things the hero Himmel would have in an attempt to connect with him (despite him being long gone) and holds onto the precious memories she cherishes more than ever from when he and the party were still alive.

This anime is a masterclass in the storytelling department.
