Yaoi is a genre of fictional media that focuses on romantic and sexual relationships between male characters. Originating in Japan. Women are unsurprisingly the biggest audience of Yaoi.

It's often called BOYS LOVE (BL) by many of its fans who also like pairing their favorite anime characters in fanart (shipping them together).

It is derived from the phrase "yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi," which translates to "no peak, no fall, no meaning," reflecting the genre's focus on character relationships rather than plot.
