38+ Overweight Anime Characters You’ll Want To Know About

Most of the “fat” characters in anime are stereotypes. They can be foodies, nerds, or jokers. This only applies if your character is overweight.

Some characters, like Kanako Mimura from Cinderella Girls and Koyomi Mihara from Azumanga Daioh, aren’t visibly taller than others but have a slight excess weight that makes them obsessed with losing weight.

This negativity is typical because of the perception of fat in Asian culture. Japan has an obesity rate of less than 5% and an overweight rate of less than 25% (the US has 32% and 66%, respectively).

Being fat is not a bad thing in Japan. This is an unusual situation. So it makes sense that in a culture with very few obese people, there are also very few obese characters.

With that said, here are 38+ Overweight Anime Characters to get to know!

1.) Hanako Ohtani (Persona 4 The Animation)

Hanako is comically obese and will eat anything that gets in her way. Despite her size, she is arrogant and conceited. Still, the story takes the viewer on a journey, presenting different situations in which girls and boys find themselves difficult, adding humour to the story.

Hanako Otani, who plays her supporting role, Hanako Otani, is known as a girl with an intense obsession with her food.

She is also a woman who can instantly catch a man and turn him down. Her Hanako-san personality and height convey the message, “If you have it, show it.”

2.) Majin Buu (Dragon Ball Z)

Being lean and toned can make you look more powerful. He’s also a bit of an idiot. Good Buu was a close friend of Hercules. There is also the possibility that he will turn you into chocolates or other treats and eat them.

Majin Buu can also destroy other planets, haunt you in the afterlife, and eliminate your existence forever.

3.) Natsumi “L” Asaoka (The Kabocha Wine)

Natsumi is called “L” because of her cup size. Natsumi is much taller than Shunsuke. They make a great couple, Shunsuke and Natsumi. Shunsuke is not afraid of women.

He has worked in his family’s lingerie business for many years. Natsumi eventually helps Shunsuke overcome his clumsiness.

The adorable couple also proves that a “beautiful couple” knows no bounds.

4.) Minamo Aoi (RD Sennou Chousashitsu)

The other side of Otani is a real drive. Although the characters in the anime are not particularly tall, they have more realistic proportions than in other anime. Received a negative evaluation.

Other people’s reactions most influenced Minamo Aoi.

5.) Akira Takaoka (Assassination Classroom)

It cannot be evident if you just watched the series. However, writing a great antagonist is just as tricky as writing a loveable protagonist.

This is why you see quite a few villains on this list. But oh, boy.

Takaoka is the anime character I fear the most. This man is the second coming of Satan. He’s not that powerful; you’ll find him hit often. But he is a brutal man.

A photo of his old team showing his true colours sent me shivers.

I hate him, so you have to give props to the writers.

6.) Charmy Pappitson (Black Clover)

She may be a controversial choice because her weight changes more frequently than in the Monogatari timeline, but anyone who can consume ten times their weight in food belongs here.

Charmy is genuinely incredible, from wanting to consume the wind spirit to quietly being the show’s biggest powerhouse.

She does fall victim to the cliché that “food is everything,” but it makes sense in her situation and is not intrusive.

7.) Arthur Goodman (Mobile Suit Gundam 00)

Arthur, a large man with light-coloured, curly hair, maintains a firm stance in the A-Laws.

Goodman is committed to the cause of assembling a world and is joyful and boisterous about it. But he has demonstrated that he will make the necessary efforts to ensure this.

8.) Akimichi Chocho (Boruto)

Akimichi Chocho, a genin-level kunoichi, represents the Akimichi faction of Konohagakure.

Akimichi Chocho is a young girl with earthy-coloured skin, golden-hued eyes like her mother, and thick eyebrows like her father. She is cleanly dressed in a dark brown.

A pink hairband ties back her two spiky pigtails. She inherited her dad’s fluffy earthy brown hair.

She is Karui and Akimichi Choji’s child. She trains hard to become a great shinobi like her father. She is cut off from the Ino-Shika-Cho age of 17, which includes her, Shikadai, and Inojin.

She eventually joins Team Moegi as an apprentice and studies cooperation with Kazamatsuri Moegi.

9.) Tonpa (hunter x Hunter)

I adore Tonpa despite how douchey he is. How dedicated must you be to taking the Hunter exam 34 times solely to make people feel bad?

Okay, sometimes it goes beyond simple trolling, but keep quiet. The “Rookie Crusher” tries to live up to his name.

10.) King Kai (Dragon Ball Z)

King Kai should welcome me to his munchkin planet after I pass away.

He’s like the dad joke personification. Before he trains you, you must make him laugh, and he does so by telling you some of his bad jokes.

Regarding mentorship, he also borrows a page from the Karate Kid, as your first assignment will be to catch his monkey Bubbles and whack his butler Cricket with a hammer.

11.) Lewis (Blood+)

Lewis, a regular citizen of Red Shield, is in charge of providing tools and transportation to the association’s representatives. Despite having been a former CIA specialist, Lewis has the appearance of being bigger than the usual man.

He always appears with a dark singlet underneath and an orange top on. At the most recent battle, he wore a dark suit and tie. He always arrives in Okinawa with Joel dressed in a dark suit and tie.

12.) Jirobo (Naruto)

In anime, big characters are frequently associated with brute strength and ruthless power. A few more on the list use comparable figures of speech. We can start here with Jirobo as well.

Jirobo was a shinobi of Otogakure and a former member of the Sound Four for the most part in the Naruto series.

His fair skin and narrow, slanted orange eyes gave him a typically grim appearance. He was shown to be moderately obese but otherwise in good health.

13.) Arita Haruyuki (Accel World)

Haru experiences the typical overweight kid success story in Accel World. Haru seeks refuge in the virtual world because he is frequently bullied there. However, as luck would have it, the story plays an isekai trap card, turning Haru into a flying pig.

As he eventually meets someone who appreciates him for who he is, he gradually becomes more at ease with his physique.

The rest, as they say, is history. It is a very moving tale that is more romantic than action-oriented. And now we have both a short and a fat king represented.

14.) Aldini Isami (Food Wars)

Isami is bigger and taller than Takumi Aldini, his older twin brother. His extremely spiky dark caramel hair is brushed sideways. His adorable tiny eyes are one of his unique facial features.

Whenever he smiles or snickers, his teeth are on display and appear to be exceptionally white.

His face changes to a more mysterious tint when he cooks, and his eyes turn white. Isami is in a unique circumstance where he only gains weight during the virus season.

Midway through the year, he started to lose weight and resembled his twin, Takumi. This serves as the defense for why I didn’t rank him higher, as his greasiness depends on the season.

15.) Yoshinobu (Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto)

Like every other character, Kubota is insignificant to Sakamoto. But one would anticipate that. He does have a rather compelling character arc.

Kubota seeks Sakamoto’s assistance after being mistreated, believing that he will receive the standard sidekick treatment and that Sakamoto will beat the bullies up.

Kubota is intriguing and slightly distinctive because of this variation from the standard anime pattern.

16.) Zaimokuza Yoshiteru (My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU)

Zaimokuza appears unexpected when it comes to his healthy side. He wears glasses, has brown or bruised eyes, and has short, dark, or white hair in a ponytail.

He is depicted in the anime as possibly the tallest character and a little overweight.

In any case, whether it’s in the late spring, he also dons a black pair of fingerless gloves and an overcoat over his school clothes. In keeping with this, they frequently cause him to sweat throughout the year’s colder months.

Zaimokuza is a Chuunibyou who engages in unusual public behaviour since he is also an Otaku. Talk about a complete collection of stereotyped obese characters that anime viewers can easily see.

17.) Kohta Hirano (High School of the Dead)

Kohta appears to be an example of the “overweight character” stereotype.

He is irritable, unable to dash or use hand-to-hand fighting, and preoccupied with something. He is also ridiculed at school. Kohta is preoccupied with guns rather than the typical food fixation.

Oh yes, he has a serious interest in firearms.

And that seems to solve all of his issues—no one threatens him with a gun, he takes out his anger on the living dead, and since it’s a long-range weapon, he doesn’t have to worry too much about his cardiovascular fitness.

18.) Lucky Roo (One Piece)

Lucky Red Hair Pirates Roo! is the closest ally of Shanks. He also discovered the Gomu no Mi that Monkey D. Luffy consumed. Lucky Roo has quite a thick, hefty body form, and he is, by and large, observed consuming a rack of meat.

He is reliably seen covering his eyes with goggles. He appears to have altered the least over the long term of the entire group and exhibits the least amount of maturation.

Lucky Roo is one of Shank’s most trusted teammates and appears to be a very easygoing privateer who enjoys spending time with the group, according to all accounts.

19.) Reiju Andou (Prison School)

You’re stronger than I am if you can look at Andou without fleeing or busting out laughing. With a laughably small face and excessively long earlobes, this utter giant features some of the strangest design choices.

He is also a significant masochist since he views not receiving punishment as the worst form of suffering, mainly if Meiko is the one brandishing the whip.

Later, this would even be used to control the wandering mountain called Andou. Take that as you will; he also shares Jonathan Joestar’s voice actor.

20.) Harunobu Nikaido (March Comes in like a Lion)

The main enemy of Shagi and Rei’s friend is Harunobu Nikaidou. Nikaidou has a slight, tubby build and pale skin that often flushes. He has bruised eyes and straight, earthen-coloured hair. Kiriyama Rei’s self-announced closest partner has a genuinely remarkably huge stomach.

Even Momo refers to Nikaido as “Bodoro” (it should be Totoro, yet you know, copyright, haha).

But he hides a tragic tale beneath his big body. He has that kind of body since his health is so terrible.

He becomes fatigued and cannot perform proactive chores for an extended period. Despite this, he has the heart to develop into a superb shogi player.

21.) Ozeki Shinya (Hinomaru Sumo)

We finally see overweight characters who are not doing so for humorous effect in Hinomaru Sumo. Ozeki Shinya is my favourite character. There are a few reasons why I like him.

One thing that immediately stands out is how many other prominent characters are highly ripped. Second, Ozeki strikes me as being the most grounded.

The man has an unusual love for sumo.

Although he lacks strength, he develops the ability to employ endurance to his advantage. He is using your head alone, with no plot armor or power-ups.

22.) Gluttony (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

The culmination of some of Father’s avarice is Gluttony. He is frequently observed devouring the leftovers of random people or animals, except for requests to consume a threat or eliminate evidence of Homunculi’s presence.

He frequently participates in the Lust movement. As his name suggests, Gluttony has a ravenous yearning and a thirst for people, especially young women.

According to all sources, he is equally stupid, follows directions well, and appears to have no idea what Father’s simple goals are.

He is also aware of adverse outcomes, as evidenced by the realization that he swallowed envy and did penance when it was time to eat Ling Yao.

Likewise, he was conscious of his impending doom minutes before Pride did him in.

23.) Tamako Inada (Silver Spoon)

The high school comedy Silver Spoon is a classic, but everything in it is about farming and the countryside. And our main character quickly realizes how superior everyone is to him.

Chunky Tamako, the dairy queen and master accountant, are one of the adorable cast members. She knows how to manage a farm, including the ins and outs and how to handle money, because she wants to take over her family’s farm.

Tamako is big in bulk. She could choose to lose weight, which is interesting to observe, but she doesn’t want to use up so much energy.

24.) Takeo Gouda (My Love Story)

The protagonist of the tale is Takeo Gouda. Takeo has large, thick lips, short, dark hair, thick eyebrows, and pronounced sideburns. He is also quite tall and strong.

May we all support our young son Gouda when he finally finds his ideal partner?

However, it demonstrates that some people judge people more on their character than their outward appearance. Furthermore, Gouda deserved her. Another stereotype of obese people is that they are frightful.

That is cruel. However, given these kinds of false accusations, it has happened that influential people are being disengaged.

25.) Charlotte “Big Mom” Linlin (One Piece)

Big Mom, one of the most strong and domineering female characters in the One Piece series, has more than lived up to her reputation. The primary opponent of the WCI Arc is a chubby old hag.

She is the leader of the extensive mother pirates. A commanding group supports her. Big Mom is an influential and well-known character from a split family.

She is a tall, muscular woman with a strong sense of character. She resides in Grand Line and is one of the four Yonko. If Big Mom doesn’t have your favourite food in her hands, she may become a ferocious beast who will seethe at you.

26.) Fat Gum (Boku No Hero Academia)

The man’s name contains the term “fat.” Regarding his sense of justice and leadership ability, Fat Gum is a good model officer. Sun Eater, Red Riot, and Fat Gum scream, “good time.”

His quirk could appear weak at first. But Rappa would probably tell you otherwise, boy.

He now serves as the ultimate weapon and shield, an extremely intriguing twist. The ultimate blade would undoubtedly turn some heads, to put it mildly.

27.) Misuyoshi Anzai (Slam Dunk)

Mitsuyoshi Anzai is the mentor of the Shohoku High School b-ball group and possibly the best mentor in Japan. He is also lovely as a person. He assured Mitsui that he would not give up until the match was truly over.

That gave Mitsui the confidence to dominate the game during his middle school years and join Shohoku due to Anzai’s inspiring statements.

Even Rukawa was inspired and motivated by him to become the best basketball player in the world. Without his obligations,

Shohoku won’t appear in the series. Mitsui will continue to be a criminal and not pursue a career in basketball, while Hanamichi will continue to be a terrible basketball player.

28.) Itaru Hashida (Steins; Gate)

The actual super hacker. He is one of the original members of the Future Gadget Lab and is also known as Daru. And let’s face it,

Itaru is the one carrying the bulk of the load, aside from the best girl Kurisu Daru. Both physically and figuratively.

Even though he may appear uninterested and lazy, it is practically done when Daru decides to do something.

This dude won’t stop until the job is done. We also get a decent sense of his adult and fatherly self; the man is just outstanding.

29.) Biscuit Griffon (Gundam)

One of the true legends of Mobile Suit Gundam IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS is Biscuit Griffon, a staff officer for Tekkadan.

Biscuit has a soft personality and enjoys reading. In addition, Biscuit is exceptionally mature for his age.

Biscuit is an intelligent and learned individual who has revealed throughout the narrative that it is Tekkadan’s brain.

He upholds Orga as a staff officer and typically stands by him during battles to help him issue instructions. Biscuit had excellent reading and writing skills because he had attended class.

30.) Tarou Sakamoto (Sakamoto (Days)

Tarou Sakamoto, another well-known assassin from the JCC, is listed next. Before deciding to hang up his boots and start managing a grocery chain for the benefit of his family, he was one of the best assassins in the town.

This show is worth viewing with pie because of his pal Shin and a wide variety of other characters.

Tarou is portrayed as a chubby character that changes in weight during combat yet used to be lean.

31.) Milluki Zoldyck (Hunter x Hunter)

The stereotypical overweight guy anime character is Milluki. He is a talented innovator as well as a double otaku.

He is a short-tempered, self-centred person who never leaves his house. He might be Ohtani’s identical twin.

32.) Kaiser Granvorka (Black Clover)

He may look weak because he is not fit like the other Magic Knights, but he is as powerful as them.

Kaiser is a modest, kind, capable, and honourable guy who accepts the position of Magic Knight Captain for the benefit of his team despite his distaste for standing out.

Kaiser is a tall, mature man with curly, light green hair in the rear. He has flared-up, wing-like parts above his temples.

33.) Nikuko (Oshiete! Galko-Chan)

Galko-chan, which features the three main characters Galko, Otako, and Ojou, depicts what frequently occurs at school. The young women also try to spread imaginations about female social structures.

Galko-chan describes herself as “the famous young lady in the class, a bit aggressively toned yet a sort of natured.”

We look at the personalities and interactions of two school-aged adolescents as they experience various mental and physical changes: Nikuko, a member of the young women’s futsal club, and Galko-friends.

Although many people might think being overweight is a sign of being unwanted, Nikuko disproves this.

34.) Geuldre Poizot (Black Clover)

Gueldre is an enormous, tall man. The other Magic Knight Captains referred to him as a fat ham. He’s dressed in his previous attire and a mask. Gueldre Poizot previously captained the Purple Orca Magic Knights team from Clover Kingdom.

He is somewhat selfish since he confessed that he placed himself first and dodged dangerous missions while reaching the top.

It is hypothesized that he employed dishonest methods to obtain his position because these qualities are the exact opposite of what is needed in a captain.

35.) Josuke Udono (Basilisk)

Jousuke has short, earthy-coloured hair and is exceedingly overweight. Over his nose and facial hair development, he has a roundabout check in the middle of his brows.

He is dressed in light-coloured shorts and a large, loosely-tied waistcoat of an earthy hue. Along with wearing regular shoes, he also creates wristbands out of tape by folding them over his wrists.

As Takeo, Josuke is a gentle monster misunderstood due to his enormous height.

He is friendly, but women avoid him because of his massive stature. Josuke, like Takeo, uses his size in a fight but also can stretch and shrink like an elastic.

36.) The Witch of the Waste (Howl’s Moving Castle)

The Witch of Waste is not just an evil witch. She represents evil in all its forms. The Witch is highly concerned about how she looks, so she uses magic to make herself appear younger and more attractive than she is.

Despite being the film’s main adversary, she is not overweight. She does it more to fulfil society’s expectations of beauty.

37.) Kosaku Tokita (Paprika)

Kosaku presents and behaves like a teenager. But he hides a sharp mind beneath his sweet façade.

Even though he might not fully comprehend the implications, he is the creator of the new technology that enables individuals to enter the dreams of others.

Kosaku is an anime character who is technically obese. He enjoys eating and is an excellent computer user.

This big man stands out from the crowd and even wins the affection and admiration of a stunning woman.

38.) Harmon Caseus (Black Clover)

One of the powerful magic knights of the Golden Dawn is Hamon Caseus. He is a second-class Intermediate Magic Knight and a member of the elite.

Hamon has fair hair that is combed back and has some strands that are turned upwards.

He is a stocky man. He is dressed in a long-sleeved, double-breasted shirt with a high neckline and red trimmings around the edges.
