2023 was only 3 months ago, and at the end of 2023 (like every year), pornhub does an analysis of what their most searched terms happen to be.
They detail everything, proved by how in 2021 and 2022, Hentai was their ultimate search term surpassing terms like MILF, Japanese, BBC, and every other popular term you can imagine.
So what changed in 2023’s pornhub analysis?
A lot changed. Especially as far as categories on the website, and how in certain categories, their interests in Hentai differs as far as popularity or priority.
Why? Who can say.
Here’s what did change.
Hentai is more famous with women than men
Pornhub’s own words:
Women’s favorite category was Lesbian, followed by Japanese and then Threesome. Women’s top 7 favorite categories remained exactly the same as last year. Following Threesome was Ebony, Mature, Anal, and MILF. After that, some changes occurred. Hentai was up +6 spots and Big Tits was up +5 spots. Popular with Women was down –3.
If you look through the list of favourites between genders, you can see that Hentai ranks slightly higher with Women’s favourites compared to Men’s favourites.
Men like “threesomes” more than they do Hentai as a category it seems (or search). Where as women like Hentai more than Gangbang and other interests.
It’s up to you to come to a conclusion, but Hentai reigns supreme and continues to dominate.

Taking a peek at the list, and seeing the countries, you can start to potentially connect the dots.
Philippines, Brazil, Japan, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, USA…
And the other countries (mostly the first ones I mentioned) absolutely LOVE anime more than most. And by extension, hentai, so this may explain women being more into Hentai as of late.
2023 Trends
Topping this year’s trends was mature porn. In 2023, the MILF category gained +1 spot to become the 5th most viewed category worldwide and the Mature category gained +1 to become the 7th most viewed worldwide, growing in popularity by +69%. Mature is now the 2nd most popular category among men, and the 5th for women.
Here’s where it gets interesting:
“NPC” (Non-Playable Character) grew by +1541% in 2023. The most popular NPC searches being “NPC sex,” “game NPC,” and “hentai NPC.”
Hentai NPC became a popular, trending term in 2023 for pornhub.
I can’t imagine what drove this change when I think about the anime industry as a whole, or more specifically, the hentai industry. But the term is specific enough to make you curious as to why it “popped”.

Unsurprisingly, “Hentai” as a search term continued to dominate.

Hentai is more famous than A list celebrities, a point I proved. So It shouldn’t surprise anyone when seeing these results from Pornhub’s analysis.
