1. Misty (Pokémon)

Misty, one of the original characters for Pokémon wore a Yukata for a few episodes. She wore it during festivals and the color is pink. Misty is a tomboy but once she wore a yukata, her companion was in awe.

She barely wore a yukata and wearing a yukata is usually for special occasions. Just like the other girls that wore yukata during the festival, each and one of them were beautiful in their own way.

 

2. Tsukihi (Monogatari)

Tsukihi wears her school uniform outfit but most of the time wears a yukata. She became Moon Fire after she and her Fire Sisters were split up earlier.

She’s practically a strategist, unlike her sister who is more of a violent person to others. She’s really close to Karen but due to their age difference, they’re not able to see each other anymore as much as before.

She wears a different style of Japanese-colored yukata.

 

3. Hana N. Fountainstand (Hanayamata)

Hana is originally from Japan, but when she was young, she moves to the states and then later on she moves back to Japan.

Once in Japan again, Hana forms a Yosakoi Club and there she makes new friends. In the club, she wears a yukata as Hana is practising the Yosakoi dance in Japan.

 

4. Sakura Shinguji (Sakura Wars)

A traditional Japanese girl who is the heir of the Shinguji family. Sakura wears a yukata and rarely changes into another style of outfit.

She’s in love with Ichiro Ogami as the two met within the game. Sakura is a part of the Flower Divison but she improves herself each time to gain experience.

Sakura tries her hardest to be like everyone else and in the end, she does succeed even though it took her a while.

5 Kaoru Kamiya (Rurouni Kenshin)

Kaoru is the teacher of the Kamiya Dojo as she teaches her student’s sword fighting. She’s a young teacher and her attitude can get violent but mostly to Kenshin if he does something to annoy her.

Kaoru means well and you can see that she wears almost but sometimes different yukata.

Kaoru wants to remain friends with Kenshin but she gets jealous whenever she sees Kenshin with another female companion. Kaoru is always there for Kenshin and she can be overprotective at times.

 

6. Rin (Inuyasha)

Rin is a young girl who is the companion of Sesshoumaru, Inuyasha’s older brother. The first time viewers see Rin, she’s wearing an old, torn yukata. Afterwards, Rin is seen wearing a yellow patterned yukata for the rest of the series.

She wears a white one in Yashahime, the follow-up series.

Rin is a normal human child who has lost her family during a wolf attack until Sesshoumaru found her in her village. Even if she doesn’t have any skills, she’s kind and friendly to other people and especially to Sesshoumaru.

 

7. Ai Enma (Hell Girl)

Ai appears to be a human school girl but in reality, she is actually a Youkai. She’s like a Grim Reaper where she takes someone’s life and every time she does, her outfit changed from a school uniform into a yukata.

All of her outfits are black which implies that she is dead and not alive. AI’s emotions are cold but there are times that she has emotions because of what she does.

She has several abilities from doing her duty and one of them is: Illusion Manipulation – she manipulates her victims before taking them to the afterlife.

 

8. Chihaya (Chihayafuru!)

The anime is based on a popular card game in Japan called Karuta. It’s a popular card game but there are few players playing the game.

Chihaya wears a yukata when she plays Karuta, she wants to become one of the greatest players so that she can meet her childhood friend again.

Chihayafuru is a good anime to watch for everyone and is a good plot in the Josei genre.

 

9. Sakuraba Aoi (Ai Yori Aoshi)

Ai Yori Aoshi is a romance anime where the girl has an arranged marriage but it was suddenly broken off. Viewers would see right away that Aoi is one of those traditional Japanese girls who wears a yukata most of the time as she is the daughter of the Sakuraba family.

The plot may be cheesy to some otaku fans, but the series itself is quite sweet and sad.

 

10. Glass (The Rising Of The Shield Hero)

The first time you see Glass, you can tell that she’s a traditional Japanese woman who wears a long yukata. The yukata that she wears is black, she’s very loyal to her own world and is willing to kill to save her own.

She’s not very nice to people as she isn’t human at all, Glass actually comes from the Spirit people. However she meets Kizuna, a human girl, and Glass softens up to her.

Later in the series, Glass and Kizuna became friends.

 

11. Hiyoko Saionji (Danganronpa 3)

There isn’t much about Hiyoko Saionji as she isn’t a major character in the anime series. She’s a traditional Japanese girl where she wears a yukata and works as a choreographer.

Hiyoko has the title of Ultimate Traditional Dancer, her real name is Koto and even has an Instagram account in real life from the video game.

 

12. Kaguya (Naruto Shippuden)

Kaguya is one of the major villains in Naruto Shippuden who comes near the end of the series. She has powerful chakra and once she gave birth to twin sons, her chakra passed on to them.

When Kaguya appears she wears a yukata. She’s been wearing a yukata since she was good before becoming evil after eating the fruit.

Viewers think that Kaguya doesn’t have any kind of kindness within her but she actually does after seeing Naruto and Sasuke as she cries.

 

13. Botan (Yu Yu Hakusho)

During the series, Botan is seen wearing a yukata throughout but she changes outfits like her school uniform. Her appearance is a normal school girl but she is actually a Grim Reaper.

Besides being a Grim Reaper, she comes from the Spirit World and has abilities. Botan is friends with Yusuke Urameshi, another being from the Spirit World.

The two friends are quite close and others think their relationship is probably more at times. Botan isn’t that strong but is helpful to others.

 

14. Yuuko Ichihara (xxxHolic)

The anime takes place in modern Japan but Yuuko looks like a traditional Japanese woman as she wears yukata most of the time and owns a shop.

However the latter is untrue since Yuuko is actually a witch who has the ability to send people through time and dimensions.

She became a mentor to Kimihiro Watanuki, viewers might not see it, but Yuuko secretly cares for Watanuki even in the end.

Even though Yuuko is a powerful witch, Watanuki changed her in some way even if others don’t see it.

 

15. Kyoko Mogami (Skip Beat)

She’s a girl who’s been broken by the man she loved who dumped her. But not before using her to pay his rent bills while she chased after him like a lap dog, and gave him the opportunity to be successful in showbiz off the back of her hard work.

Kyoko then rebuilds herself, walks through the front door of a showbiz company, and somehow ends up in the acting business and finds she has a flair for it.

Her drive and grit give her a level of motivation no one else has. And it shows when she’s performing.

She’s not one to wear Yukata often, but during acting, she does it and does it well.

 

16. Marin Kitagawa (My Dress Up Darling)

Marin is a high school student, she loves cosplaying and is an otaku. That is how Marin meets her fellow classmate one day: Wakana Gojo as she was trying to make a cosplay outfit.

She wears a black yukata when she meets up with Wakana to go on some sort of date one night and that’s where Wakana gets flustered after seeing her in that outfit.

Marin is a normal high school student and is going on her daily life and her passion, she wears different clothing after school and that includes the yukata.

Wearing a yukata is a fun way to impress someone in Japan, especially on a date. The girls are transformed beautifully once wearing a yukata and their companions are in awe once seen. Getting a yukata could be either inexpensive or expensive, depending on the design that you want to get.
