Fun Anime Fact:
- Anime, by definition, is a style of Japanese film and television aimed at adults and children. And the very first version of Anime was created in 1910 by three Animators. Also known as the “fathers” of Anime.
As people we tend to knock things before we try them. Meaning we’ll criticize something without first giving it a try.
We judge a book by its cover instead of reading it first.
The same thing happens in the world of Anime. So let’s clear a few things up in case you happen to be one of those people!
3 Common Mistakes People Make Before Watching Anime.
1. Comparing Anime to cartoons
Cartoons definition: –
a simple drawing showing the features of its subjects in a humorously exaggerated way. Especially a satirical one in a newspaper or magazine.
Cartoons, unlike Anime, are not only designed differently, but the plot is also different.
In cartoons there usually is not plot, and it’s very simplistic. Also it’s aimed exclusively at children.
Anime on the other hand can have profanity, violence and touching stories. No different to films and movies.
Anime also follows a plot most of the time, and can be educational as well as entertaining.
Plus the audience of Anime fans are teenagers and adults.
If you’ve held back on watching Anime because of this comparison, you can put this myth to rest.
Give it a try and you’ll be surprised at how different Anime is in comparison to cartoons.
2. Taking advice from people who’ve never watched Anime
The problem is when you’ve never watched something yourself, giving advice to people who want to watch it is a bad idea. Why? Because you become a backseat driver.
You give advice when you’re not in the position to give it. And If the person you give advice to believes you, then they end up doing the same thing. And the cycle continues….
Instead of listening to what people have told you about Anime, watch it for yourself.
Watch a couple of different Anime shows and then judge whether Anime is worth your time or not.
3. Assuming every Anime is like DBZ, Naruto, One Piece, etc
There’s nothing wrong with the Anime shows above. Nothing at all. But the problem is because these Anime’s are so extremely popular, people who’ve never watched Anime assume that’s what Anime is about.
That’s far from the truth. There are Anime shows about anything and everything, no different to films or TV. You can watch Anime shows about:
- School life.
And soooo many other categories. Like with a lot of things, you just have to look for the good stuff to see it.
Not every Anime show is about superpowers and super human strength.
Can you add anything to this list? Let’s hear it!
